| I am curious to know, since I am still getting my home studio together, what type of props people have handy. Be it chairs, stools, teddy bears, balls etc. Please share! Thanks! |

I few of mine:
baseball, various footstools, "classic" teddy bear, canopy, lots of flowers & petals, white towels, cheesecloth & other interesting fabrics, cowboy hat, other hats, squeaky toy, pinwheel, giant lollipops, string of pearls, angel/fairy wings, butterflies, lots lots more (if you're photographing little ones, you may want lots of handheld items that are of interest and pretty to photograph) Just chairs/stools for adults. They usually don't go so well with a giant teddy bear. :) |

Everything. From gaz masks (too many gaz masks), to carnival masks, from those safety tapes to small television, few wigs, boas, hearts and brains sometimes when I can get them fresh, chopsticks, cards, puzzle pieces, ribbons, piece of clothing, actual clothing (usually mine), one stool, fake flowers, some creepy hats, some normal hats, some cool hats.
I know I have more. I'll edit each time I remember, that way I can actually track them down.

GOOD question!
For the pet photos I did i had some antlers and bells (it was christmas time) and santa hats. The (nice) white whicker fan back chair was alread there - so I definetley want one of those.
Blocks are important, posing blocks. I did a search on posing blocks and found this site. Looks fascinating - gotta find some time to read it all! GO check it out!! I've also seen pillars (you can get the at a craft store).
I need numbers - if you see most any HS Senior pics they ahve these large number for the graduation year - where to get them??
So you need the basics (rug, backdrop, posing blocks/stools) and then teh rest depends on what your photographing - kids, dogs, adults, or the season (easter, xmas, etc) or a subject/theme (HS Senior, sports, music, etc).
So that doesn't really answer your question, does it? LOL

check out setshop.com - great place for props, etc. Also add to your must have kit in the studio: paper towels (because someone always spills something, powder and or tissues (for shiny faces), and baby wipes (for a zillion different things)

Hey, not to get off topic, but here is a place you can get the numbers:
//backdropoutlet.com/catalog/
Look under Props/Seniors :)
You can request a free catalog.
Ok, as far as what props I have. I'm fairly new to this so I have "basics". I have a simple black stool for adults. A little white painted chair, a large variety of fake stemmed flowers or vibrant fake gerbera daisies, poinsettas, etc. I have some feather boas, angel wings, fairy wings and 3 types of furry fabric for babies to lie on. Oh yeah, also a blue washtub, fake bubbles and bathing cap. Can you tell I enjoy photographing children? lol The majority of what I have came from Walmart and was inexpensive. If you use your imagination you can find a lot of things for props that weren't really intended to be so. I think thats everything............
As for what I still need, an "absorbent something", as with my last baby shoot, the naked baby pee'd on my furry rug, lol. |
