Well, thanks to a DPC member here, my 17-40L is travelling across the Atlantic and I am now the proud papa of a 24-105L. I haven't even taken it out of the box yet. I was worried I wouldn't have it in time for my trip to Miami Beach, but it just arrived today. I'll be sure to post my impressions of it after I've used it this next week or so.
For those interested in the lens, I picked it up at a local shop in Portland called Pro Photo Supply. They are on the net and do ship places. I mention this because the price was nearly $150 less than any other reputable site I've seen. ($1133, no tax)
I'm sooooo stoked! Lens purchases are a rare occurence in my world. |

It's a sweet piece of glass, if you don't mind the sheer heft of it :-) I played around with one the other day... Enjoy!

I forgot to tell the amusing anecdote that while I was buying this lens, the guy beside me was picking up his Canon 500mm prime. His box was easily big enough to hold a laptop computer and then some. My little lens looked sorta pathetic next to that one...$5500 for that puppy and he didn't even blink. I bet he was a happy man.
If anybody is in the Portland area, this does seem like "the place" to go for professional stuff. Their prices seem variable, but competitive. Like I said, my lens was $150 less than anywhere else I saw it, but then I went looking for backpack bags and the cheapest was over $100 and many were $200. That seemed to be on the expensive side. |
