I am currently using Photoshop 7.0 and I was wondering if I could get some opinions on whether it would be worth the cost to upgrade to Elements. I'm not familiar with what dings and whistles Elements has, so not sure how much an upgrade it would be. All related feedback appreciated.
Thanks, Jack

Elements is a downgrade, not an upgrade.

Photoshop - $650.00

Elements - $99.00

Whoot! Thanx for the quick reply Hopper. I've seen it mentioned by so many users here on the site that I assumed it must be an upgrade. Thank you much for clarifying.

I got 7 as well, but most of the literature around here in the local book shops is for CS2. So lets keep with Jaxter's question but use CS2 as the alternative, as this is of interest to me too.

In my opinion, CS2 would be a huge upgrade. It has a lot of new tools and features that weren't in PS7. BHPhoto is selling the CS2 upgrade for $150. In order to use the upgrade, you need to have a licensed version of PS7, PSCS, or newer on your system. You just have to decide if the newer features (too many to list, look at the link for all the features) are worth the extra $150.

Bump for other opinions.

Without a doubt, CS2 is very much worth the upgrade price from 7.0. The only thing to be aware of is that CS2 is more than a little bit of a memory hog. You really want at least 1GB of RAM for it to work well.

I have to agree that CS2 is a great upgrade. I upgraded from 7 to CS2. The only problem I have with it is it uses a lot of memory so all of my processes are a lot slower than they used to be. I have 1Gb RAM but that's not enough. Also, the image browser has been replaced by Adobe Bridge - I LOVE it! Not only can you batch process your RAW files but I love the ability to increase the size of the thumbnails and to watch the frames go by in a slideshow. While watching the slideshow, you can rate the photos.

I would highly recommend the upgrade from 7, just make sure you have enough virtual memory and enough hard disk space.
