so, i had the opportunity to see G-Love & Special Sauce last night.
//www.philadelphonic.com/main.asp
awesome show - i'd highly recommend seeing him if possible. i saw him in a cafe about 11 years ago before he was famous. and attended a party that he attended. right around when his first album came out.
he is the guy who gave Jack Johnson a name...
it was a very small venue. i called ahead to ask about cameras. was told to call back later - so i did - and was told no flash photography/ no video. i hadn't been to this place before - but it probably holds no more than 500 people.
so i figured i would bring my camera along - no gear - just the camera with 50mm f:1.8 mounted. i get the tickets at will call - make it through the pat down - and some dude says to another ' hey, what's the deal with professional cameras'. then tells me i have to ditch mine, because they don't want any gear that could produce a photo that could be sold to a magazine. i said huh? i should have brought my G5 then? ( i actually don't own one ) he said 'are the lens changeable?' i said no. he said ' yes '... i said well i don't have any lenses with me besides the one on the camera so i can't change lenses. he didn't take too kindly to that, and was about to give me the boot - so i put the camera in the car. unfortunately it would have been a prime place to shoot. and i think i will get a high quality prosumer cam for this type of thing.
anyway - check out G-Love.
../ i stand corrected.

Sucks about them not letting you bring the camera in. I guess they want a piece of the profits if a magazine prints anything that happened at their show.. understandable |

yeah but 6MP is 6MP - i tried to make the point - but wanted to see the show at the same time... i made the right choice ;}
i know how to get around it in the future. i guess that's the purpose of my post. it wasn't the band that made the rules, the venue's rules have loop holes.

Hmm.
A G5 is a rather poor low-light performer, I must say. Very noisy at high ISO's, almost to the point of being unusable. And though the built in flash is decent, it doesn't do you a lot of good if flash isn't allowed. The lens does open up to f/2.0 at the wide end if I remember correctly, though. |

the 300d is poor at ISO above 400. no flash allowed. the light would have been suitable for ISO 400 - f:2.8 - 1/80th.

next time i'll load my AL-1 with ASA-800 - mount the 24mm FD - and likely walk right in...

Too bad about not being able to shoot, a great group...... would have liked to see your effort. I am sure the music was good. |

just the principle bugs me.
