That's one direction to take this image. However, I think it would have been greatly improved if you'd added some motion blur to the ball--it just doesn't feel like it's zooming toward the lens somehow. |

No way! This is photojournalism... it's totally unethical to fake a shot in post production!
He totally should have pulled out his tripod, switched to shutter priority and dialed down the shutter speed to get the motion blur in-camera.
Some people...

That's quite the assumption! This could, for example, be an action shot intended for the school brochure or web site! (Besides, anyone who's been watching the Olympics knows there's little "photojournalism" in sports anyway!)

My first real introduction to photography was as a sports photographer for my school newspaper and varsity boys basketball games were my first assignments. I had basketballs bounce off my head and these giant ball players falling over me while sacrificing my body for the sake of the picture. I know how you felt.

i, and my equipment, escaped injury ;-) we did have a few more close calls. it all comes with the territory, though, and i wouldn't trade it for anything.
these were shot while covering the Old Dominions Athletic Conference's Women's Basketball Championship this past Saturday. The Randolph-Macon women won, giving them an automatic berth in the NCAA Division III tournament. Hopefully, they'll go all the way, and I'll be able to cover them.
More shots from the game are here |

Dang Skip, I must have missed it. Which one was you? Number 12?
LOL all kidding aside, nice catch. My shot would have been rotated 30-40 degrees clockwise as I clicked and bailed to the side at the same time.

Looks like you were all over the court! Glad to hear you and your equipment made it out unscathed. :-) BTW, I thought Georia Tech were the Yellow Jackets. ;-P
