Had these photos printed and mounted for a local photo contest. It was my first printed competition. Didn't win anything, but was invited to leave the photos on display in the Nature Center for another month. Maybe I'll get some local exposure.

Next time I'll get them matted also. I think 95% of the photos in the gallery had nice matted frames. I'll have to remember not to crop as tight, so as to leave room for the frame.

Any advice for hardcopy contest?

Very well done! You should put some up for DPCPrints. Were most of these your 100-400 lens? The winners must have been amazing to beat these.

Something to think about if matting. If you want the entire photo area matted, without worrying about the mat cropping something out, resize the photo to about a 1/4" smaller all around and then increase the canvas size to the print size. For example, I get most of my stuff printed on 8"x12" paper. I resize the photo itself to 7 1/2" x 11 1/2". That way, the mat overlaps the photo paper, but not the photo itself.

Congrats on some beautiful shots. I hope leaving them for a month drums up some business. And keep entering contests. With stuff like that your bound to win sometime.

Beautiful shots! It's hard to even pick a favorite out of them. I like the tight crop you've used, but I can see where it could get a little too tight once they're matted. Keep up the fantastic work and thanks for sharing them with us!

Thanks all! I went back and looked at a portrait version of the coyote to see about including the paws in the photo, but they weren't visible. I snapped the photo as he came up a rise, and his paws were buried in the snow on the backside of the rise. Thanks for the suggestions and ideas.
