Tom, Since I was on a marketing team for years I would love to help but you are asking us to do something that is almost impossible. You are giving us NO variables to work with. All we know is you are opening a major restaurant. To give you some ideas we would need to know some details such as:
1. What are you serving?
2. What client base are you wanting to draw?
3. Whats your price point?
4. Whats your competition within a mile, 5 miles, and 10 miles?
5. ETC.

Bad idea, a local resturant around here was giving Spider Monkeys away to the first 500 customers. It really didnt work out, its always best to stick to Gibbons..

Ok... here it is... BEST MARKETING IDEA EVER... There are no prices on the menu. You just pay what you feel the meal was worth.

Three best restaurant marketing ideas:

location location location

Next best three marketing ideas:

quality consistency value

Next best three marketing ideas

hold on to your loot, fire the guy who wants to re-invent the wheel, steer the ship

So much for my not so marketing oriented marketing schemes.

My boss just hired a marketing company. This'll be the third one in as many years. It's a pain in my neck because I have to bring them up to speed, knowing they're just going to get fired because the boss won't be happy with them. Then once again it'll just go back to me. :-/

Oh well, it keeps me up to date on the buzz terms at least.

Since i work in the restaurant biz...

Free kids meals on their birthdays - they'll bring their parents or more for full price meals, you cost is a kids meal.

internet email sign up for something...my restaurant started it, once you get them listed you can email them a coupon or weekly specials, etc.

bottomless cup of coffee - oh, yeah, 40 year old idea.
free refills on soda - oh yeah, 20 year old idea.
Free refills on steak! Oh yeah, my place does that - but some do endless fries or endless salad (olive garden and one other place i was in recently)

Singing and dancing servers - lots of places do that now, but maybe it works.
