I'm not really pissy about it, but I have gotten a bunch of the same comments about a distracing thing in my Fashion Entry..... I couldn't help it!!!!! LoL I would've loved to do some dodging... but I wasn't allowed. I plan to fix it afterwards. :)
Now... go ahead, everyone tell me again!
Are you guys getting anything like that? |

yeah..it is called a fault. you can fix it in PS, but now you can think on how to correct it prior to doing it in PS. Any ideas on how to do that?

I can't get too into it.... but it is something that can't be fixed. It's just there.

People can't see what others have said until after the vote. Unless their ESP is very good, or they just don't comment, they run the risk of repeating... or even contradicting other comments.
Several People told me to crop out the cranes in this picture...
Every one of them was right.
Edit: Sorry if mine was one of those. PM, me... I'll be happy to tell you again :P

tell me about it lol I had edited my small but annoying "faults" and when I got ready to post I noticed it was a basic challenge so I had to pull it and re-do. Now I'm getting comments about the very obvious stuff. Mine isn't doing very well anyway...dang model...kidding, so no biggy for me.

No complaining from anyone who currently has a score above a 6 *with* a 'fault'... ;-)

This shot got 32 comments and almost everyone said the same thing. I knew I would get some comments on the building (I liked it so I left it in--damn I"m stubborn) but I was surprised how many people actually liked the photo if it weren't for that part. I just checked each comment helpful and that was that.

The question here is, "Are the reviewers correct?" If they are and it is an obvious distraction then you should expect many to mention it. After all, one reviewer has no way of knowing what another reviewer has already said.
If we are particularly fond of an image for one reason or another it is easy for us, erroneously, to overlook its faults. The impartial eye of the reviewer returns us to reality.
If you were aware of the distraction before submission and the distraction was unavoidable then you have to question the wisdom of that selection. This serves as a reminder to be more selective in the future.
Live and learn! :)

It can get a bit wearying when the same fault is mentioned over and over, but as folks have said, no one knows what another person has already said.
The good thing is now you can see what is drawing the viewers eye and how its impacting (negatively or positively) and give the photo another go if possible and tweaking it to take advantage of that feedback.
The thing I find extremely annoying are the comments that make assumptions on what you've done to the picture or what you were trying to do, etc that are so completely not correct and thus not helpful.
At times I'll find it very hard to click the comment as helpful because they're mindset doesn't apply to the image - sure if they had been correct in their assumptions then the advice/info would be great and helpful, but since its not..
But what can ya do! I generally still click helpful since they made the effort to comment, even if they were wrong. :)

I'm getting comments on everything I thought I would. I'm just glad I was able to see them. Wish I would've taken more time to try to fix them, but save for a few, I would've had to reshoot and I just wasn't up to that.
I'm pretty sure I know what you're talking about nsoroma and you're right, it's nothing that a little dodging couldn't fix. I'd probably get a little annoyed about hearing about it over and over again too. ;-)Basic editing can really be a drag sometimes, huh? ;D

Yeah...
I didn't even notice it until I submitted it, and even then it's so small, I didn't think it would matter. I have already fixed it, and I plan to show it when the challenge is over.
It's no biggie. I'm still doing pretty well. But maybe I could've scored higher if that wasn't there!
Live and learn - right?

Yours is a good example how comments can be very helpful. It is a pleasant shift from all the abusive comment discussions.

I have 20 comments, every single one of them says something about "the" distracting element in my photo. And you know what? They are all right! It is amazing how much lower of a score people give you for distractions though. |

That's probably the best learning tool on DPC. Things like crooked horizons and telephone poles growing out of heads will get commented on over and over and over. Then you learn to look out for the small stuff the next time. Cheers.
