Dave Newman has been teaching a portraiture class for the past couple of weeks, mostly with emphasis on "in studio" posing and lighting. Well... yesterday he took a bunch of us "photogs" out on location to practice what we were learning, only instead of studio lights we were using natural light.
He brought along a model for the shoot (the man), but the two girls in the images just happened to be there. They were all extremely patient with us as we paparazzi'd them.
These are some of the pictures that I took during the session:

Very nice shots. I see where a diffuser would have been handy to control the sun a bit, but totally understand using what/where you have. These look great and the posing is nice in each one. The portrait class sounds like fun!

Wow these are very nice, it is always interesting to learn how to utilize natural light and your environment. I would have to say the first row are my favorites. I also really like row 2 number 3. |

To be honest, I was quite surprised that we never got out a diffuser. Mostly Dave (the instructor) wanted the light to be diffused naturally by being in shade. Then he either used a reflector to add light in some cases, or block light in others. The only two shots where they are directly in the sunlight are the two that were shot through the door opening. The light is rather harsh, but I think they still turned out pretty good.
