I've been looking around for some decent flashes and accesories and jazz.

So...I was wondering, what is a good flash to use with my FZ20? I was looking at the Sigma EF 500 DG Super on ebay and have heard some good things about them, but would they work well on the FZ20? Also...I was wondering if there was a flash that would detect the settings of my camera so I wouldn't have to set it manually. I know Canon has the E-TTL flashes and Nikon and Minolta have theirs.

Also...I want to run a flash off camera for portraits. What do I need for this? Would I just need a hotshoe cable that runs form the camera to the flash or can I do it wirelessly?

Sorry for all the questions lately, just making sure I get good equipment for the money is all. And I trust that you guys know what your talking about :P

Hey Caleb. just saw this thread. The Sigma (which I have) is a great flash but I am not certain it is compatible with your camera. For you to have the flash away from the hot shoe, you'll need an Off camera Shoe Cord. I would recommend getting a flash bracket if you need the stability. To fire remotely, yes you indeed need a flash trigger. Let me know if you need a flash bracket. i've got one lying around that I don't use because I just picked up a Stroboframe bracket.

When I can afford it (prob next autumn when the light gets bad), I'll be getting the Sigma EF 500 DG.

Try adding a bit more bucks and get the Super 500DG. Works like a charm ;) All the bells and whistles and you can even go as low as 1/256 power if I'm not mistaken ;)

Sorry to high-jack the thread, but a quick answer from rikki please.

The Sigma EF-500 DG Super EOS says it uses E-TTL but the Sigma EF-500 DG ST EOS says it uses E-TTL II, so I think it would be better with the 350D? Sorry stare_at_the_sun, I'll go away now.

Hmmmm.... that's an interesting question. I'm sure someone can clarify that portion of the show ;)

I have just ordered a Sunpak 383 Super for my FZ-20. It was the most higly recommended flash unit in a Panasonic forum at //forums.dpreview.com/forums/ and I hope to receive it in the next day or so.

It is not E-TTL as this is not supported on the FZ-20 and most folk seem to use it in Shutter mode sync'd at 1/60 - but there is a lot of leeway here according to what I have read. Not the world's newest flash but one of the more praised non E-TTL versions. Cost me £59 but in the US seems to go for about $60 - 70.

Personally, I can't wait to get it!

I checked these out...this seems like a good flash for the price, and something that will work good for my camera.

Can anyone find me a link to a sync cable that would work so I can run the flassh off-camera? I'm not really sure what I'm looking for.
