alright, I have tried reading through some old posts, which i am afraid have only confused me more...

under Basic editing rules, what can I do and not do with a RAW image with a RAW image converter?

may I adjust shadows, exposure, saturation, hues?

thanks

Anything as long as you apply it to the whole image.

Not exactly true... was a DQ, very recently where vignetting was used for effect. RAW converter settings, to be safe, should be used only to "preserve photographic integrity."

Edit to add thumb.

Vignetting affects parts of the picture differently instead of the whole picture equally.

There WAS a DQ recently for vignetting applied in RAW conversion. Applying a vignett is like burning the edges of the shot, not legal since it's not aplied to the whole image. If the same slider is used to take away vignetting caused by a wide-angle lens, hwoever, it is legal, isnce it is intended to correct a problem (preserve photographic integrity).

I agree, but it IS allowed in basic (to my knowledge) if used for corrective purposes. The no-no here was in that it was used for effect.
