Your brother's got some really nice photos. Congratulations to him.
A family friend worked "over-winter" there and based on his tales ... I'd rather visit the way we did, rather than the "working there" route. |

Seasick: The motion of the ship was "dramatic". If you were near the bow when it fell into a trough, it was like going over the top in a roller coaster. They strung ropes throughout the open spaces of the ship so you could walk without being knocked down. Probably 95% of the passengers were seasick to some degree. The French have a wonderful term for it ... malade de mer. I was taking Sturgeron and wearing wrist bands. With that, it wasn't so bad. Others took Dramamine or Bonine or used the patch. One passenger I talked with had an electronic stim wrist band he claimed worked. But during the crosing, only about half the passengers showed up for meals.
Lenses: I brought all my lenses with me but my 24-120 was my most used working lens. Followed by my 70-200. With the motion of the ship, and the wind ... the VR lenses helped a lot!

Pretty cool stuff.
Incidentally my buddy just got back from McMurdo this past weekend (after R&R in NZ).
He has a lot of pics on his blog //doctoronice.blogspot.com/
The archived pics from last year's trip are good as well. |

my brother wanted to work at McMurdo...ended up with the worst job on the Continent at the Pole. Crazy place apparently. All just looks like Hoth to me.
