What a mess. Good pictures, sad story. I wonder what the best course of action is now. Scientists are pretty much in agreement that sea levels will rise about 3 feet in the next century, so do you rebuild New Orleans as it was in the same spot? 100 years is not a long ways off, and can it even exist when sea levels rise like that? Good photos, I hope you post more.

Cool shots. I think they capture the mess as well as can be done on film... I just got back from NO last night... I took about 2GB of pics over the weekend. If I find any that canme out I'll post a few...

I'm sitting here in N.O. as I key this.

3 feet in 100 years? If that is true, we will flood every hurricane season. As it is now, any home that has to be rebuilt should be raised to at least the "high water mark" for Katrina.

After the flood (my home did not flood), we sold our house and are in the process of building a new one 40 miles north of here and 35 ft above sea level.

As it stands today, even a minimal hurricane next year will re-flood the area.

I don't think they can predict it with 100% certainty, but yeah, 3 feet is the general agreement now. It's not really making the news much with everything else going on, but the polar ice caps and Greenland are really melting FAST now. Storms are predicted to be much more violent in the future, and of course anything right along the coast ( florida ) is in for some major headaches.

Did you have problems selling the house? I can't imagine anyone wanting to buy in the NO area!
So sorry for all those who lost their homes - must have been awful and still not over.

You were in Slidell, just off the hwy 11 bridge, on Lakeview Dr. That was the hardest hit area on the Northshore. You may have seen this house on the same street.

There used to be houses on those pilings sticking out of the water.

Yup, I saw that... that was out on Rat's Nest Road... Where a lot of those shots were... I saw the building, but didn't pull over, for whatever reason...
