I'm a relatively new member of DPChallenge. When I̢۪m not wasting time watching my challenge scores plummet, I̢۪m a Mediterranean Archaeologist at Tufts University. During the summer, I direct an excavation at an Etruscan site called Poggio Civitate just south of the city of Siena in Central Tuscany.

This URL takes you to a prototype of the digital publication project we started a few years back.

This URL offers a very brief (and slightly outdated) introduction to the site itself.
In any event, every summer I conduct an archaeological field school where students train in techniques of field excavation, data documentation and field conservation. Moreover, I recently expanded the program to include an illustration and measured drawing program for students from RISD. That program has proven so successful that I would now like to start a similar program in archaeological photography. The excavation has an archive of approximately 15,000 catalogued artifacts, the majority of which still need high resolution digital photographs for our database and on-line publication project.
Ideally, I would like to find between 3 to 5 people who would be interested in working for the excavation this summer. The program would include the opportunity to work in every dimension of the excavation – field excavation, geophysical survey, conservation, data base development – but this group would also dedicate a significant amount of time to training in archaeological photography for research and publication and photographing materials in our storerooms and our museum which is located in the town of Murlo.
There is a program/housing fee which is rather expensive ($3700). Unfortunately, conducting this kind of research project in this part of the world is incredibly expensive. However, one factor that does mitigate the cost is that fact that participants can receive up to 6 hours of Tufts University credit for work on the program.
If anyone is interested or if you know anyone who you think might be interested, please feel free to contact me at the following email:
anthony.tuck@tufts.edu
or you can give me a call during the week at my office:

Thanks for your time,
Anthony Tuck

Anthony;
I find your post very interesting, as I Captain a research vessel in the same region, the R/V Hercules, for a compny called RPM Nautical Foundation ,based in Key West.
We quite often work with the Institute of Nautical Archaeology on various projects through out the Med.
You can also check out my personal web site to see some of the areas we've worked in the past couple of years.
Good luck up in Poggio Civitate.
