A couple of years ago I purchased a book "Photographing the Southwest" and it contained an image I knew I had to get. Yesterday was the day, my wife and I spent the long weekend in Kanab, UT and we hiked out to the Wahweap Drainage and...well tell me what you think.
More photos from the trip can be seen here, but I am still updating the album with new ones.

Wow, how exciting is that? To think about a photo for a year and finally be able to make it happen! Very interesting formation. I'm going to look it up. Great job!

It was a fun trip, I had been looking at the picture in the book for a long time. When we checked into the hotel and they even had a similar picture hanging in the office. A misread in the trail guide had me worried trying to trying the exact location but after some hunting we found it. By the time we got there the light had gone flat and it was starting to snow.

Awesome, John. I was over at St. George this past weekend and did some shooting at Zion's NP. I had the same problem with flat light and snow that you did.
I really like your shot and can see why you wanted to have the shot yourself.

Kanab, Utah, is one of the few places in America where I've stayed overnight. I didn't know about the Wahweap Drainage - but I know about the various Pugh mansions ... and Pugh Canyon. |
