I just landed my first job as a photographer!!! I'm very excited. It's not a super duper job BUT I do get money for photography and can also write off photo equipment.

I have a good full time job already so this will just be on the side.

My job will be for a real estate listing company here in Norway. I will have to take 10 pictures of each property and get paid equivalent to US $120 per job. On average I will get 20-30 jobs per month so while the job itself is nothing to be very proud of, I do make more than what I would have made selling stock photos. They also pay mileage for everything further than 4km from my house.

To get the job I had to show off interior and exterior photography skills. The company also sent me a few pictures with lens distortion (due to superwide angle) and asked me to straighten them plus fix the colors. They were satisfied and offered me the job which I accepted.

It was also required that I had at a minimum a 12mm lens on a camera with 1.6 crop factor (or 19mm on FF). I have a Canon 20D so I bought an EF-S 10-22 which should arrive on Tuesday. If I in the future buy a 1DS mark II or another FF Canon camera, my new 16-35 f/2.8L that I bought last month should do. I don't think it's worth upgrading the 20D to a 5D though (I love the speed of the 20D for sports!).

But I'm not at all experienced with this... I do know that I shouldn't tilt my lens for example too much to prevent warping but other than that I'm blank. If there are any special do's or dont's or recommended equipment w/regards to this type of photography I would love to hear about it!

I'm very excited!!! Wahoo!!

My one and only tip from personal experience.... If you wear glasses and you manually focus your shots, make sure that you actually WEAR YOUR GLASSES!!!! I wasted six rolls of blurry film because I took my glasses off at one point and didn't put them back on.

Congrats on the job. I don't have any tips, just thought I'd mention that a pro photographer I met (I was buying an inkjet printer from him) did this sort of work, it was his bread-and-butter. Maybe not stunningly exciting but it was regular, consistent income and helped fund his personal work. US$2-3,000 per month is certainly nothing to be spat at!

Congrats on getting the job. Do you know if they are hiring in Oslo?.. Which company was it with (if me applying in Oslo is not competing with you)

where do you live in Norway. Or where is Darbu?

Never really taken real estate pictures except for twice for friends so no advice here I am afraid. Is the company by any chance named C360 or something like it? It has a subsidiary here in Iceland. Anyway, relax, I´ll bet you do fine, I have seen your work and I am confident you can pull this off pretty easily. Only advice for now that I can think of is to take lots and lots of pictures to begin with so that you make sure you get the shots and learn from your mistakes :)

Congrats!
