Ok, forgive my ignorance here.
1)If I had a fax machine, it takes nothing special for me to send faxes from my house (other than a working phone line), correct?
2) Is there such thing as a scanner/fax combo (no printer)?
3) If no such thing exists, could I have a scanner/fax/printer combo and my regular printer hooked up to my computer at the same time? I don't know if the printers would interfere with each other.
4) Any recommendations? It would only be for faxing and scanning model releases and various other paperwork. Since it would only be used for paperwork/documents, it doesn' have to be anything special.
Thanks :)

I think most fax machines do copying anyway, they obviously already print.Only any good for documents though.

We have a very handy Fujixerox Docucentre here that does:
- printing
- copying
- scanning
- faxing
- emailing
it needs the following connections
- network (for emailing)
- phone (for fax) |

Why not get fax software on your pc? you have everything then, if you have a scanner that is. |

Anything is possible and probably made, but a combo Scanner/Fax without a printer would be a specialty item. Scanner/Printer/fax combos are pretty cool in that you can use them as color/BW copiers without even turning your pewter on. (do people still fax?)
Everything live harmoniously if you have the right set-up... Most printers and combo units are USB and they all plug into a hub and generally won't conflict with one another.
If your print is Parallel (LPT) and you have a funky cable going into your pc and you get a combo that is USB they will work fine together.
Now if you get two Parellel devices (like the older printers with the 25-pin connector) then you might have a problem as most computers only have 1 physical LPT (parallel) connector.
I imagine you are using usb for your printer and combos units are almost always usb, so you would be fine.
Now as to the fax, that will add a modem driver and we all love setting up those goofy dialers. |

A lot of plain scanners also come with software that allows you to send a soft fax via your computer's modem. It's not stand alone though
Most brands also make printers that can scan, send faxes and print pictures right from camera or SD/CF card.
I know the top end model from HP does all of that. |

The answers to your questions:
1.) Yes, you only need a phone line.
2.) Probably, but it would be hard to find and most likely expensive.
3.) Definitely. Most, if not all, new printers have USB connections. With this, you are only limited by the number of available USB ports you have on your computer. You could theoretically have ten printers hooked up without a problem if you had the necessary ports available, they would just come up as printer options when you go to print something.
4.) I don't have any specific recommendations, but I would recommend HP as a brand in general. They make great printers, not to mention great other things as well. I have had nothing but HP printers for as long as I've had a computer and loved every single one of them. They last a long time, the only reason I've ever replaced an HP printer is because I got a new one with a new computer package. With that said, HP comes highly recommended from me.
Any questions, problems, or comments let me know!
