I've been offered a good deal from a good friend on a used 300D and after looking at it compared to the expense of going with a Nikon D50 as my first dSLR, I believe I'm jumping ship on Nikon.
Sorry, Nikonians you may very well see the last of the 8700 photos from me soon. It's probably going to be sold for "glass" money.
I just can't stand being a P&S digital guy anymore... time to catch my digital equipment up to par of my 35mm and Canon, I must say, has the most bang for the buck.

If its was me, I would try to hold on to your 8700, if possible. Thats a great camera. Get the 300D and keep the Nikon.
Just my 4 cents. |

I may, as they aren't selling for as much as I thought they would on E-bay. Just depends on how bad I want a particular piece of glass ... LOL

Actually am having the same thoughts. I can't bash the 8700. It's been one fine camera. But, it is, despite the fact that it tries not to be, a P&S.
I shoots wonderful photos in good light, but in low-light situations forget it, it won't even focus.

Won't sales of the Cheese print raise the funds for glass?

If I were to upload it, do you really think anyone would buy it? And how much should I charge? LOL

It doesn't matter. It's the volume that will do it.

Your in for a lot of fun now! Trouble is you will always have one eye on the next piece of kit for your SLR setup!
I went from a Nikon 5700 to my Canon 350D and have never looked back. Make your first lense either the Canon 70-200 F4L or Canon 17-40 F4L, botha amazing lenses for the money! Oh, and a flashgun is a must have too! |

You won't regret your decision to pick up a 300D, even down the road, that thing will still be able to be resold for a decent exchange.
I will also second the opinion of others to keep the 8700. It's a really handy camera.
You will also find your overall lens package for the 300D to be cheaper than if you went Nikon and got the same quality lenses.
If you find youself wanting a new peice of glass, try to find something else to sell.
maybe make a new nude? |

I disagree about the L lens choices...
The 70-200 f4L is nice, but for the same price you can get the 70-300 IS which is just as sharp and much more versatile. The 17-40 is nice but quite pricey...I love my Tamron 19-35 (only $125 on ebay) and am continuously amazed at how great the pictures look from it (awesome color, sharpness, etc...).
Definitely get the Tamron 28-75. It's an amazing lens. |

Well if you keep the Nikon and buy the Canon you can always have the best of both worlds. I went with Nikon because I had the glass already but I certainly would not switch over at this point in my life. I prefer the feel of nikon and I got used to the buttons and the weight etc, Im totally NIKON and proud of it.
To be honest there is so little difference in the 2 companies its not worth bikering the point, Canon are great and Nikon are great also, and to be fair the now sold KM (sold out to sony) make good gear too.
Enjoy your Dribble err I mean Drebel and sort that cheese out
