I've heard the CS2 is very buggy and slow. I have PS 7 and want to buy a full version CS. I'd buy just the upgrade, but worried it won't work. (Though registered my PS7 was bought for next to nothing in China, Shhhhhhhhhhh that's just between us)
Thanks for any help and opinions

I have PSCS2...it is slow at startup, but with a good fast computer and plenty of memory it moves fairly fast in the processing area. I don't see it as being any slower or "buggy" than PS. Just my 2cents!

Only issue I have is the very slow startup of Adobe Bridge. Even when loaded it goes into the "not responding" mode when changing directories and sometimes takes severalminutes to start working again. PS seems to work great, on my dual processor 3.0 Ghz it does things very snappy. |

I have had some lock-ups in CS - I think due to Miranda plug-ins and some scripts. CS2 has not done that. However CS runs faster and smoother than CS2 on my computer. Also Adobe Bridge browser is imo no improvement and over complicated. |

As already voiced CS2 takes a beast of a CPU to load quickly, but is a must have if you work in RAW. |

RSP is a viable alternative to ACR so you don't need to upgrade for that reason. However, CS2 allows a lot of processing with 16 bits/channel so for that reason it may be worth the upgrade. |

To speed up the loading time of CS2, you could (and should) disable some of the lesser used plug ins that you have.
Go to the plug ins folder and put a tilde (~) in front of the name.
Digimarc is a good example-it̢۪s used to read and write watermarks.
Do you ever use that?
You can easily take the tilde off again if you do.

Thanks everyone! I appreciate the advise (I'll remember the plug-in advise. I have plenty of plug-ins that could easily be diabled or deleted.) I have 1 gig of ram and pretty fast computer so I can live with a slow start-up. Thanks again for your time folks.

i've only had one Bridge crash....but all of my CS2 apps are having issues with the sliders freezing on me for a few moments. Not a big deal, just annoying.
Other than that it is great...though i'm dissapointed in the cloning tool controls in Vanishing Point.
2Ghz 1.5gig ram, and CS2 PS is up and running in about 14-15 seconds.

nobody has mentioned that you are shooting with a rebel xt. The raw from the xt is only supported by CS2. Adobe left us high and dry by not giving us an updated raw viewer for CS. I highly reccomend you use CS2. Even if you are not shooting raw now, you might some day. I never did until I got CS2, it was just too much of a pain. But now that is all I shoot since CS2 does support my raw format. I would never go back!!

I have no problems in running PSCS2 on my laptop and I use it fairly often. It usually loads up in 15 seconds or so.
1.6GHz Pentium M, 1Gb RAM, 128Mb graphics card <--Don't know if that helps

I do not believe that CS2 is buggy.
I upgraded from PS7 to CS2 on an underpowered, slow machine - 512 Meg RAM, 1.39GHz Pentium 4 processor. It is recommended you have at least 1Gig of RAM and I would agree with that.
CS2 is slow at some tasks but works just as well and as fast as PS7 does, faster at most PS7 compatible tasks. And it does not suffer from the frequent software download interruptions that PS7 has when starting up. Occasionally it gets confused and I have to save and restart just like I do with PS7. I did find that some actions do not work properly in CS2. They have to be redone to work correctly. Also, they did rearrange some things just to mess with your mind. :) I do not use the Bridge software, don't really need it, and that probably makes a difference.
It is well worth the upgraded feature set and 16-bit functionality. Going to CS instead of CS2 would probably be a mistake. It probably isn't much cheaper, has a richer feature set and the CS2 software is supposed to have improved performance over CS.
