Apparently I'm just as bad at scoring abstracts as I am at shooting them... But just for fun, I went through the results and discovered the following with respect to the images I marked as highest scoring:
Two on the first page, two on the second page. From there, my "high scorers" finished in the following places - 23, 29, 38, 39, 42, 56, 57, 95, 123, 127, 136, 144, 146 and 165.
So what does this mean? It probably means that if you get a comment from me and I LOVE your picture, you may end up not doing very well. Sorry about that. :-) |

Hehe, the great thing about your vote is it's never wrong. Everyone's different, how boring life would be if we were all the same.
I hate pickles, black licorice, and usually mushrooms.
:-)

You must join the DPC Underground, where they are currently serving up a delicious pickle, mushroom and black licorice salad. Mmmmmmm. |

I know what you mean. One of my 10s was in 284th place:
It did almost as badly as my picture! :) |

I was pleasantly surprised with my 5.690 score for my "Worm Holes". I eneded up in 96th place. So far it is my highest scoring image to date. Would have liked more comments but I'll live :)

I gave your image a 6. I would have probably scored higher if it had been sharper. Now, you've given me an idea of something to try. |

Are we posting outtakes here? I might have one or two. ;^)

I appreciate the 6. I'm just getting started in this whole photography thing, so I'm learning with each new challenge.
I agree focus was a problem, getting all of the holes on the washer drum to be in focus was driving me crazy. Having to focus in multiple dimensions was also a pain. I had front to back focus as well as up and down (depth of the holes).
But like I said, I'm very happy with my score. |

Someone mentioned outakes? :)
For most of the week I had this one
submitted but my family and friends all liked this one better
Did I go with the right choice or do you like my outake better?
Of course I am happy with the score and placement I recieved. Just curious. |

Diagonals are usually more dynamic however your entry seems to be more in focus so I think you made the right choice.
edit: not that focus is the issue in an abstract challenge.

Having scored below my expectations, it is nice to see my shot on your list. Thanks! Thanks for the comment as well...it is the business end of one of my kaliedoscopes. It has two stained glass wheels mounted to the end that spin freely that create the design you see when looking through it.

Well I gave your entry a 9 but I think I like your outtake better.

I'll definitely join as soon as I get home from work. But I'll skip the pickles and licorice if that's OK. |

Dang it. I just went looking for my original of my entry. It seems I did all the editing at work on the CF card and blew it away without realizing it before copying it to my home pc. :(
Oh well at least I have the image here on DPC to remember it by. |

Played around a bit with some Cokin filters (1st two)...should have gone with the 3rd one I think. Yes/No? ;^)

I think I actually like your entry. It is very sharp. Of the three outtakes, I think the 3rd is the best.

I agree with persimon, though its a toss up between the 3rd one and your entry. I like the angles of your 3rd one.
Well here was my entry
Was it abstract enough? I barely eeked out a 5 on this one, most of the time it was hanging out at about a 4.8. |

Thanks! I like what you came up with...surprised it didn't score a little higher. Left a comment.

I found it very peculiar that with over 300 entries, only about 175 voted! Personally, I feel obliged to vote in every challenge I enter and sometimes vote in other challenges as well. The low vote count probably does not significantly affect the results but it would be nice to have a more representative turnout. |

I like the effect with the filter, but it does't really work for this challenge. I like the one you entered much better then your 3rd outtake. I was one of your four 9's. |

Thanks Aaron. The filters were fun. I had stacked a fog and a radial zoom filter together. Just messing around - never know what you'll get until you play a little bit. ;^)
