Well, after we adopted our baby girl last April, my wife and started to consider relocating to raise our daughter in a safer environment with better schools. We had considered Florida, but a great job opportunity came my way in the Denver area and I have accepted. I will be leaving for Denver February 23rd. My wife is going to stay behind and sell the house and will catch up with me as soon as the house sells.

I'm hoping there might be some Denver DPCers out there that might be able to recommend some place to go shoot. Since I will be solo for a while I will probably be doing a lot of photography on the weekends.

Thanks.

Hey Eric! Congrats on the new job, and may the move go smoothly!

Just go West, North, or South and you can't miss :-) East is pretty blah...

Congrats on the move!

I am a Denver guy. I made the move from the midwest a couple of years ago and live Downtown Denver. Which side of the city will you be living?

My problem is I like to keep it to short drives so I don't have to be in the car forever. So there are obviously tons of places further than an hour drive but the following list all falls within an hour drive from downtown.

1. Downtown Denver (citylife, candids, events)
2. Boulder (30 mins away, college life, hiking, open vistas of front range, falls, rock climbing)
3. Red Rocks Amphitheater (20 min..nice view of downtown, rock formations, trails)
4. Roxborough State Park (40 min...rock formations, nice trails)
5. Colorado Spings (1 hr...pikes peak, garden of gods, etc)
6. Golden, CO (20 min...coors brewing co, lookout mountain, hanggliding, views of city)
7. Rocky Mountain National (1 hr...national park, wildlife, waterfalls, mountains)
8. Mt. Evans ( 1 hr.... spanning views of Rocky Mts.)
9. Denver Zoo (still love it after visiting many times)
10. Denver Open Spaces (basically many open green parks across the city are nice for nature and sky shots)

Feel free to ask any questions. I am in Florida until June, but am looking forward to returning.....

I'm looking to move there myself. Just waiting for my company to have the right opening for me. I'll either look to live in Aurora or Colorado Springs. Guess I'll just walk around looking for a couple of guys carrying Nikon's

I lived in Boulder for five years...I never cared for Denver, but Boulder and the surrounding mountain towns are just kickass. I stayed in Nederland and Ward for a brief time - both extremely nutso mountain towns, very cool!

I think the reason I never cared for Denver was cuz I'm a born NYCer, and Denver just didn't cut it for the CITY feel I needed. Boulder, on the other hand, was so far from CITY that it worked perfect :)

Have a great move and good luck to you! Enjoy the surroundings...it is ridiculously gorgeous part of this world.

Thanks for all of the suggestions! I was at the Red Rocks Amphitheater last weekend for the first time. What an awesome place! I definitely want to go back and take more time to shoot it. Nice shot of it on your home page by the way.

I will be living in lonetree until my family makes it out and then we will decide where we want to settle in. I will be working in the Denver Tech Center area.

Hey Gringo!

Yes, it is going to be sad. I was born and raised here in Southern California and my roots are berried way deep! The Ocean is going to be the hardest to part with. I love Venice Beach and the whole live style that revolves around it. I grew up in Venice, and Graduated from Venice High School. It will be missed. But on the bright side, I will be returning to LA multiple times a year. My dad and my brother and his family are here so I will be back as often as possible!

I got your PM I will respond to it shortly.

Take care.

OH NO! Another one Californicating Colorado!! ;)
Not sure on your snow experience...but ice and snow is NOT like rain. :)
I live up north near Greeley. Just NW of here is a "small" (use to be real small) town (Johnstown) that is has a giant population of people that commute to Denver living there. Not sure how that all happened, except that it is just off of I-25. Guess they got sick of the smog and big city life. hahaha.

ROFL! For those who don't get the joke, it is a well known fact that all the bad drivers in CO are from California ;o)

I am a Colorado Native....born in Pueblo, raised in the Denver area. Then, I got married to my husband (also from Denver) and we are currently in Guam!

I think you will LOVE it there. There is SOOOOOO much to do. You especially realize how much there is to do there after you live in Texas for a couple years...LOL

Good luck with everything!

Congrats Eric!! My sis and her husband are moving from LA to Texas for the same reason. It may take them 2 years to get it all together, but she's an Austin native, so it'll be great to have her back home after 18 years!!!

Have a fun and wonderful life in snow country!!!

Hey now! Watch that kind of talk.

From another SoCal welcome to Colorado! Feel free to drop me a line. I can connect you with a couple adoption groups out here if that's something you might be interested in. We love the Littleton area and it's close to the Tech Center. Who are you working for?
02/12/2006 09:34:30 PM · #19
I find Colorado drivers simply in general are absolutely terrible drivers. You will be driving on 25 and then everyone comes to a standstill for absolutely NO reason. And then off you go 15 minutes later going 60 again. Or I believe because of the snow one day, 60 degrees the next type of environment, the Denver drivers truly believe they are expert snow drivers and can drive however they want (because of their raw talent) I guess.

Anyway, enjoy. The tech center is a pain, but being in Lonetree should help. Since I am not a native Colorado resident, I say come one come all. I like the diverse types of people that make their way to Colorado.

That is what we are saying......it's the massive amounts of Californians who have moved to Colorado that have caused all the frustration! ;o)

J/K.....giving ya a hard time

When it comes to driving, I think it is all about what you are used to. In 7yrs, I have lived in Colorado, Texas, Florida, and now Guam. Since I grew up in Denver and learned to drive there......I find it easier to drive there than anywhere else. (Especially Texas..lol)

The funniest place I have driven in Texas is Amarillo. The major highway running thru has these very unusual U-Turn type of interchanges and ramps on to the highway. And corresponding roads that run parallel. Very weird to get used to. Don't know if you have been there, but unique to me at least.

I am just giving Colorado drivers a hard time, but it is difficult to try to predict traffic flows when random stops happen like they do (without accidents or construction issues).

That is seriously a Texas thing. LOL Corpus Christi has it, Wichita Falls has it, Houston has it (though not as bad). It drove me NUTS.

Take some pictures along the way if you can. Would like to see what the other side of Colorado is like. And Utah for that matter...
