Hello folks.
I just joined and have a technical question.
I know it's an old camera... but I recently bought a used Nikon Coolpx 990.
After noticing some hot/stuck pixels I'd like to fix the problem.
I have read about several programs out there for bad pixel detection and for CCD remapping, to interpolate around the offending pixel(s).
Who has done this to their CP990 and what was your process?
What were your short and long term results?
Thanks in advance...
Bryan

I thought about doing it.... But chickened out!
There's a program here that I downloaded when I was experimenting with time-lapse photography;
//www.charliex.net/cpix/cpix.htm
It contains a utility to map out hot pixels on the coolpix 990. BUT, it is a 'beta' program, and contains so many warnings about possibly damaging the firmware in your camera that I just couldn't bring myself to run it.
So, if you run it, and it works for you, let me know so I can try it. I'll let you be the guinea pig! :) |

I still have my 995, and at one point Nikon remapped it for me. It did eliminate a few really obnoxious ones that had cropped up, and there have been few or no really bad ones that have cropped up since. I only use that cam for certain special-purpose stuff at work these days, so it sees use only occasionally.
I know there is/was at least one program out there for doing this, and the results were reportedly good. Here is a thread on DPReview, you'll need to scour through it but the info is there for sure.
Edit: the program previously linked was the one I was thinking of. Read thru the DPReview thread, there are posts with some experiences with it.
