I shot some self portraits a few weeks ago, but I couldn't post any because I was using one of them as my Free Study entry.


I was going to use the 5th one for my Free study - but I liked my collar bone in the one I entered.... plus I liked the look of mystery.
And I was going to use the 6th or 7th in the Off Centered Subject...but I got busy with shoots, and I forgot to get it in on time. Doh!

Anyways, I wanted to show you a few of the others shot that day, and get your feedback on them - good or bad.

*yes I know they are just kinda thrown up there... but I don't have my portfolio on here, and I didn't feel like making it look all pretty! LoL*

the last two are my fave. I really like the 1st one with the furry thingy. I like that they are in bw, it adds a bit to it.

good stuff, technically good.

Ah...all are just beautiful. But if I still have to pick top two I would pick the one in forum message and the last one. The best thing about the last one is the "mystery" is conveys. I really like the pictures where the subject (In this case-face) is not completely visible and there is something left for the viewer to imagine.

You are lucky to have Model available anytime you want to click photos :)

Anyway, is it the soft focus or lower jpeg quality which is making photos a little hazy? (I'm making big assumption that everything is okay with my eyes!)

Left you a comment on the on entry, Lorrie - then I took a look at your portfolio of other shots - I was right, the image is much more appealing to me when you smile. :) Also, your eyes seem to have a life of their own.

Great images all of them.

I would have to agree...I like it better when you smile! I think that you should have kept your hair coming down your face on the one in this forum....I really like it! Anyways nice portraits!

btw, it looks like there was a small bug crawling on your chest in some of the shots - maybe it was sensor dust. ;-P

I really like the toned shot. Very cool. But I have a penchant for the sort of blown and bronzed look. Nice work.

Thank you for all the comments thus far.....

For the smiling, it depends on my mood, and what smile I show. I don't like my big open mouth smile. I have a smile that that takes up my whole face! So, I try not to do that too often.

It's the resizing that makes them slightly blurry. I didn't resize them when I put them on the site, I resized them in front page. I noticed that too.


This shot is one of my faves too. It's very natural looking for me. Plus, it's very close to my devious look... just raise the right eyebrow a little bit higher. :)

And no... it's not sensor dust...it's a ladybug tattoo! LoL

I really like this series. My favorites are shots are nubmers 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, 9, 10, and 12. I noticed that we have some similar camera equipment; did you use a wireless shutter release for these? I just finished my own self portrait series project and found the wireless shutter release to be extremely helpful.

In shot #4, you look almost exactly like a girl I dated in college. I did a little double take on that one :)

The fourth row is my favorite. 1st & 2nd poses. All of them are very nice. I havent been brave enough to have a go at self portraits yet. Well done.

The best photo for me is the second photo on the second row. Now if it weren't so sharp it would be a fantastic shot, the pose is very good.

LoL. I actually use my Sony Cybershot for Self Portraits. I like to hold the camera to get right in my face, and the D70 is a bit big for my little hands (well, to hold one handed anyways) I have used my D70 with the wireless remote, and I have gotten some great results, I just have a hard time hiding the remote. Mine is weird for some reason and won't go unless it's pointing right at the camera. I know someone else who has one and you just have to be in the smae room and press the button.
