It's like The Boy Who Cried Wolf. I'm one of the very few people who actually gets out of the building. Most people just ignore it & keep working. I think it's pretty insane to risk your life to get an extra half hour of work done.

I'm afraid someday I'll be taking shots of people jumping out of windows. But I'll do it, because it might be a wake-up call to folks who ignore the alarms.

Took these this morning after the alarm went off in my building.

I also went over to visit with my parking lot guy, who has my license plate number memorized. :-)

Sorry for the delay, I had to pull the fire alarm and clear the office so no on would see me on DPC. I agree with you Slippy, sometimes a guy needs some time to himself and those who don't clear a building when he pulls the fire alarm are just plain inconsiderate!

;-P

I stay in the buildings during fire alarms because I've been bad. I just want to get an idea of what eternity will be like.

I don't know how anyone can stay in the building, at least I couldn't at my office. The noise level is unbearable! They test the system once in awhile (notify all in advance), and when the alarms go off everyone has hands over the ears.

I have been in two actual evacuations due to fires in a highrise. The first one it took me about 5 minutes to figure out where the evacuation stairs were.

They are a pain, but when the real thing happens, the few minutes it saves you because you know how to get out can make a huge difference.

its the same at my Uni. there are 4 colleges- and for some reason members of the others like to come into ours and set the alarm off. this has happened at least once a week for the past 4 weeks- usually at about 1am (there are student residences within the college buildings). its going to get to a point where nobody is going to leave when it happens. that sucks

Our drills are blind, that is, we don't know if the building is on fire or not. Even when we have a drill, part of it is the FD responding. If you don't evacuate, you will get in trouble when the FD goes through the building and tells management, "This yo-yo was still inside working." Then you get to explain to some very unsympathetic higher-ups why you are such a dumbass.

That, coupled with the fact that our building has caught fire several times since I have been here (All were small fires) is incentive enough to evacuate.
