Gradient map for muted tones
Remove bg - turn to black
Add burned, soft black edge layer
NeatImaged to oblivion

A think you'll agree that this looks bizarre and pointless!

Here is a quick version of what I would have done. First, use Shadow/Highlight tool under adjustments. Then use the magnet tool and select the deer, do inverse selection, lens blur the background to desired look, and again reverse selection back to the deer, and very slightly lense blur it (I had to use this because of the quality of image, too pixelated, the blur made it look a little more like fur rather then digital pixels, probably wouldn't have to do anything to original).

Here is another one, I just cut it and pasted it into another background, but first did a little liquid filter on the mouth and eye and antler. Afterword, use the blur to blur the edge of the deer so it doesn't look so much like a cut and paste job.

Acid deer. Used liquid to move some things a bit- more smile, bigger hump on back, moved horns a bit. But after everything else you really don't notice it. Just had some fun playing around. Then solarized and inverted the image. Used levels to balance it again and once again solarized and inverted. Some levels again and color saturation. Still learning Photoshop Elements.

well.. i did some layers, duplicate it. filtered the background. used some brushes . and as for the deer images, brighten and contrast it.. change the colors using selective colors..blured it with gaussianblur . well thats it i guess.
