I am now a new full member to DPC and have taken many photos, which I would like to add to my portfolio.

My user name is sherpet but you can call me Sherryl or Shez for short.

I need HELP..... as I am at a loss to know how to "UPLOAD" to "DPC" re PHOTOS for "MY PORTFOLIO". This includes how to make sure my images are the right size but not to small like some newer members have done.

PLEASE, PLEASE, HELP.....

Due to cost restraints, I am not able to buy "Adobe Photo Shop", which I would really love to have.

I have purchased "Corel Paint Shop Pro X".

I am not good at anything techicinal, only artistic things.....

So PLEASE HELP ME, in understanding just HOW to "UPLOAD" using my own "IMAGES" and using "Corel Paint Shop Pro X".

I am desperate, as I really am so eager to learn, and to finally be a fully participating member of DPC, so that I can enter challenges like all of you.....

Please help either via mail at sherryljohnston@dodo.com.au or re DPC. Or you can send me your phone number, so I will contact you, if living in AUSTRALIA.....

I will gladly send my phone number to anyone who can definately help me.

I AM REALLY NEEDING HELP
love Shez or Sherryl re sherpet

From the manual.....it recommends you work on your images in PspImage format (paintshop pro) ....when you've finished working on them (done all the editing resized etc) click 'Save As' in the dropdown menu under 'File'

You can choose the format you save your image in there, 'Save as type' choose JPEG. Bottom right there's a list, bottom button is Options, click on that and you can choose the level of compression (how big the file is there) .....have a play see how you go and if you strike problems come back to us.

Most important things.....don't work on your original, save a copy and work on that. Give your image a different name from the original so there is no chance you can save your edited work over the top of the original.

It is the sizes that DPC require in dimensions as well as the file size as well.

Top tool bar.......Image->resize-> shows you the original dimensions, next box down is pixel dimensions. Just type in the size you want the longest side of your image to be 640 (pixels) At the bottom of that box is a check box Lock aspect ratio.....make sure that has a tick in it.

That should give you the size image you need......hopefully :))

make sure you resize before you save the picture as a new file name- i have Paint Shop Pro 8, and using the compression slider is hit and miss with file size. if you resize the picture first (with a max dimension of 640 along any side for challenges, i do the same for my portfolio) you can play with the compression slider until you get the file size to what you want (150kb or below for challenges, not so important for your portfolio although you only have a limited amount of space).

im not sure if you do this already but always try to keep an orginal, completely unedited copy- you can do this by choosing ''save as'' rather than save and entering a slightly different file name.

PSP8 and PSPX arn't exactly the same but if you have any questions feel free to ask :) (im also a beginner at using the software to)

edit: spelling

After you have used the Resize tool to get your image to the dimensions you want, I'd reccommend using the JPEG Optimizer tool (select Export in the File menu, then click on it in the fly out menu) to get your image down to the file size you desire, which would be less than 150 kb for dpc.

I guess there is a need for a tutorial on this as it seems to come up often. I've put together some images to walk thru saving a 640 pixel image for challenges using Paint Shop Pro X. Version 9 is the same for those using Paint Shop Pro 9. I'll get this up with text to Drew or Langdon shortly. In the meantime, here are the steps to follow.

Resize the image
...menu selection
...option selections and values

Save As with Options
...menu selection
...JPG as file type
...select 'Options'
...select 'Run Optimizer'
...compress to approx 150k file size (154,000 bytes roughly)
...enter filename and 'Save'
