What do I need to be able to shoot straight to the comp....either wireless or wired. Is it slower or faster than using compact flash?
Thanks

you just need a wire...
as far as slower or faster than CF, the CF card just stores the data that your camera processes. The camera won't gain fps or get a larger burst sequence as its your processor / buffer that fills...I thought the 20d was pretty fast already though.

You want to lug your computer around strapped to your body and plug your camera into it? Personally, I'll just stick with CF cards...
plug it in, hit go...get a drink, goto the bathroom, come back and it's done...just multitask.

'Urro.
If you put EOS Capture on a laptop, and run that up all new pics you take will be downloaded to EOS capture automagically..
If you've got someone sitting there you can get them to do selects and put them in folders for a slideshow if you really want..
There is also the WiFi option, although it's not cheap. The WFT-E1 will work with the 20D. It'll FTP your images to your PC or to a web server live if you've got a wireless cable router handy..
Cheers, Me. |

i sat on the mat shooting 5 matches at a time from 9am till 330pm without stopping for anything. I just thought it would save a little time shooting the first batch to the comp. Start the slideshow and watch the parents go ooooooh and aaaaaaah.....and then never order anything....hehe
this was my first little kids tournament....i swear i was laughing and smiling the whole time. |

You shot 3600 pictures in one day? That's pretty insane.. how many/what size memory cards did you use, and how many batteries?
Isn't there some sort of schedule where you can plan out the important parts you need to shoot? or is it just a huge tournament thing?
I don't see how they can expect you to turn around all your images on-site? Surely you have to select the best ones and process them all and then send them to the client? |

3600 SHOTS? Yowsa man, you're gonna wear that camera out.
Canon's wireless add on is about $1000. At first that seems pricy, but how many CF cards does it take to hold 3600 RAW files? 130 images per Gb? (it's late i'm tired and got a cold) That 27 1 Gb cards at $90 per (perhaps cheaper as sandisk lowered their prices feb 1) so that's $2400 in CF cards. Or you can spend $400 or so on a pocket back up HD device and still need some CF cards.
There is another company that just introduced a wireless solution - works with any CF compatible camera and it's $1500+.

Yes...I am posting them all to my website. I just wanted to know how to do it with the straight from camera to comp. Its sunday morning now and i can just now begin to focus with my left eye. Chris...Last weekend i shot about 5500 between bball and high school wrestling. Yes it is a tournament that is just insane. I never left the mat all day. Shooting another one with my bro in law and about 4 other photogs today. Yes i think i will have to have my shutter redone about once a year. i think i am over 50000 on this...and i just got it in oct. maybe someday i will be better and learn quality over quantity.
Thanks guys |
