I'm going to be in Barcelona and have a free day on this coming Sunday. Is anyone from BCN and fancy showing me the delights of the city?

I was just there... *sigh* Oh well... If you don't find a guide, make sure you see the Sagrada Familia (Metro: Sagrada Famlia). Park Guell is pretty cool, but out of the way. Casa Batllo (Metro: Passeig de Gacia) is more central and easier to get too. There's lots of stuff to see on La Rambla and just off it. Cool buildings, etc. There's a catherdral in old town, that's ok, I really like the surroung area. There's a Picasso Museum and a Dali Museum there too... (Metro: Jaume I).

That's way too much to do in a day, but it's a place to start... the Sagrada, Park Guell, and Batllo are all by Gaudi. Really ornate, different stuff. His name is where we get the english word Gaudy...

Anyhoo, have fun!

I spent the fall there, got back at the end of December. I have some shots here (not all Barcelona but most).

Park Guell is a must for photographers, the bus goes right there - I think it's the 22 but can't remember. It leaves from Placa Catalunya on Passeig de Gracia. The Rambla is good for people watching, just hang on tight to the camera (which goes for anywhere around the tourist areas in Barcelona - I had a bag stolen) especially if you're sitting down at a cafe.

The Sagrada Familia is awesome, make sure to walk up it and have a look around. Mostly, though, just walk around a lot down from the beaches at Port Olympic, down through Barceloneta, along the harbour, through the Barri Gotic and through El Raval and Poble Sec. Montjuic can be cool too - there's great views of the port and the city up by the fortress. If you're into contemporary architecture check out the Torre Agbar ('the dildo'). Also take a walk through Gracia - it's wicked.

Transit is your friend there. Buy T-10 transit passes and it's way cheaper, and can be used on the trams, buses and metro.

Sorry, Falc, I was in Barcelona in the beginning of the year. It's a lovely city. I go sometimes every year. It's a pity you didn't announce it before. I could have gone. I'm about 5 hours from there.

I have some pictures, but not here at work. I'll post it later. You can see my burst of colors picture:

Musts: Parc Güell is spectacular for making pictures, Sagrada Familia, Ramblas (Boquerías market is beautiful), Santa Anna church in the old town (I think is the one that says tryals15 is a wonderful church and the surroundings are so nice, Port Olimpic has some new architecture. What I most like is walking in its streets, mainly in the Barri Gotic and Eixample (in the upper side of the Ramblas)
If you need something just ask for it.

Have fun and hope we have another oportunity to meet.

Alex,

I'm still here and it is a wonderful place. Yesterday I managed to get uo the Sagrida Familia, the Pedrera, Casa Batllo and then walk down to the Ramblas. I had taken so may photos I had to go back to the hotel to recharge all my batteries ;-)

Will post a few when I get back on Thursday!

What a wonderful place - everyone should visit this city.
