Due to several comments referring to the processing of my "Best of 2005" entry, here are the steps I followed along with the results.

Here's the original as it was taken from the camera resized to web resolution:

brightness -10, contrast +10 and Shadows 2%, Highlights 10%, crop

levels 0 0.95 255,
brightness -5, contrast +5 and Shadows 1%, Highlights 5% (Final Result submitted)

I think the post processing enhances the original and doesn't tamper with its integrity.
What do you think about this final result?

Looks nice. That's nowhere near tampering with the integrity, it's just touching the photo up to make it more accurate and nice looking.

I completeley agree with Jon, the processing is very good and really enhances the beauty of the picture.
I sometimes don't understand how some fellow DPC'ers pass on judgment about "over" processing and give low scores on shots like this one. This picture IMHO should have scored way higher than it did.

Congratulations Martin and keep up the great shooting!!

I'm especially puzzled on how the flower is brightly lit from the inside? natural light? very cool

I took it using natural light

I believe this effect is caused by the natural coloring of the flower. It is indeed a wonderful image, a star shining with its own light!!
I think you captured the full beauty of this blossom, don't let anyone say otherwise!!
