If anyone's interested, I've posted my used 350D and kit lens for sale on eBay. The camera has some finish wear, but it's clean, works perfectly and it's still under warranty through April. It comes with an extra battery, better strap, wireless remote, and a good ribbon history. ;-)

I bought one in Cristmas, but maybe I sell mine and buy yours, because that camera knows how to make good pictures... LOL

Um if I buy it...will you autograph it for me?

Sure, but it might hurt the resale value. ;-)

About how many photos do you think you've taken with it?
02/02/2006 09:47:17 AM · #6
I honestly don't know, but I would guess in the 15,000-20,000 range. My old 300D had 30,000+ shots on it when I sold it to a co-worker, and he uses that one all the time.

I'm interested, but how does that work with the warranty transfer? How would Canon know how long the camera's been in use?

Canon's warranty is one year from purchase, which was last April. I never filled out the warranty card, so from their point of view, somebody bought it less than a year ago.

So, if it needed warranty work, wouldn't I have to provide a date of purchase? Or does Canon know when it was sold because of the serial number or something? Thanks for your answers.

I work for HP Warranty department, and for units which were not registered at the time of purchase have a factory ship date, we need to see proof of purchase to update the entitlement to the purchase date. So it might be an idea to supply the original receipt with the 350d in case Canon work that way.

As far as I know, Canon's even worse. If you don't have proof of purchase, they go by the camera release date (the first date models were sold). Including the receipt for Canon products is standard practice on Fredmiranda.

I can include the original purchase receipt if you need it.

Thanks for the info, folks. I haven't done much eBaying yet, and I was curious about how one could get warranty work done if needed on a used camera. Perhaps people usually include the receipt on a purchase like this?

Thanks--of course, April's not too far away anyway. But I have sent in my A70 for work under warranty...don't remember if they needed the receipt. Maybe it's a moot point.

Don't count on it.

At least in this case, you would be buying from a seller who is more trustworthy because of this site (and being a member of the SC). But I wouldn't count on getting an original receipt normally from ebay purchases. With HP we will service out of warranty units, but at a very high price, almost as much as buying a new unit.

FWIW, there is some obvious wear (nothing major) on the finish of the camera- which should come as no surprise to anyone here- but it's VERY clean, and everything works perfectly. My reserve is set at $600 for now (about $150 less than retail for the body alone). Used XTs have sold for more in past auctions. If it doesn't sell, then I'll either lower the price or offer it to a relative.

Thanks for the info, Shannon. I already have a Canon EF 28-80mm f/3.5-5.6 II from my wife's film Rebel, so I just need to think about this some. (Our lens will work with the XT, right?) How much of a difference would there be compared to the one you're including?

Yes, it'll work (although it will act like a 45-128mm lens). The only thing you'd need to add is a CompactFlash card (NewEgg is a good source). The 18-55mm kit lens is pretty good IMO, but obviously no match for high-end L lenses. I'll be putting a good 28-105mm lens up for sale tonight (cheap), and maybe a 420ex flash (haven't decided on that one yet).

Not to hijack the thread but I have a 2gb Kingston Elite Pro (50x) compact flash card that I'm selling if you're interested. It'll hold 230 raw images so it's quite nice.

That's because of the digital Rebel's crop factor of 1.6. I learned about that today. :-)

Yep, that CF card would be perfect.

EDIT- 50x, not $50. My fingers are faster than my eyes.

I have a 1GB Sandisk CF card, and a couple 512KB, so I think I'm OK there for now. So, is the lens we already have about the same in quality with the one included with your XT? If so, I may have to pass on your deal since money's tight and I don't want too much focal-length overlap.

You'll probably need something on the wide end eventually- your 45mm isn't very helpful when you need to shoot a group photo indoors. 18mm is equivalent to 29mm on the Rebel, and other wide angle lenses will cost you considerably more money.

How many ribbons come with that 350XT? hehe
02/02/2006 11:54:54 AM · #25
I have lots of crayons and some construction paper. How many would you like? ;-)
