I have an audio cable (miniplug to miniplug) and need to know if it is stereo or mono. Is there an easy way to tell? It only has one cord (vs two attatched together). However, I don't know if these things ever come with the two cables wrapped to look like one. I hope you know what I mean..LOL I have 2 other mono cables from Radio Shack but I need 3 so I am hoping this other I found is also mono. Would it hurt my Alien Bee or Pocket Wizard if it IS stereo?
Thanks!
Jenn

On the metal part of the plug there will be lines (usually black) running through the metal, separating the different conductors. If there are two lines (and therefore three sections of metal), it's stereo. If there's one (and therefore two sections of metal), it's mono.

you would see a extra black band (total of two) if it was stereo
but if it is just a extention female to mail to use with our AB's -- it will not make a difference ... mono or stereo |

Thank you so much. That is what I was afraid of! The extra cable has 2 blue lines........the ones I know are mono have 1. I guess I just need to pull out my reflector for now. LOL
Thanks :)

Its a miniplug to miniplug cable to connect my Alien Bee to my Pocket Wizard. I just don't know if it is ok to use a stereo cable or not. Anyone?

I wouldn't risk useing the stereo mini-plug... there is a fairly good chance of the mis-alligned connections causing a direct short. Very bad for electronics.

You can go to your local RadioShack and get a stereo-2-mono adapter for each end and you should be ok. If you have a store there. If not any parts store should carry them.

Thank you both. I'll have to check for a Radio Shack here. In Florida, I had a hard time finding the cable so when I found 2 of them, I snatched them up. I need 3 though..LOL
Ill take your advice and not chance it with the stereo plug.
Thanks a ton.

Might also call some music stores if Radio Shack doesn't have the cable.
