I sold my Z2 on eBay (first time I've done this), and the buyer paid with an eCheck via PayPal. All seems fine as the eCheck has cleared today, etc...

Question is, when I ship the camera I'm shipping it USPS priority mail. Should I send it with confirmation delivery where the buyer has to sign for it?

I would appreciate any feedback from those of you with some experience doing this. Thanks!

I certianly would. That way they can't come back and say they never got it and you can track it. This usually keeps the postal service from just leaving it for anyone to see and maybe steal.

I send ebay stuff via UPS and make sure it's insured for the full amount. If the buyer says it doesn't arrive, it's not your problem, have them contact UPS for reimbursement.

I would assume that you can do something similar via USPS. I usually don't send items via USPS because their tracking capability is so poor (among other reasons).

I have done it with and with out, never any problems both ways, also have used fedex and if u get a tracking number thats even better cause you can track your package and see that it was recieved.

I sold my old Mac G4 cube with my little nikon p&s on ebay and shipped by UPS got a tracking number and no problems what so ever

I always thought it was the sellers responsibility right up until the item is in the hands of the buyer. Postal insurance is there to protect the seller.

If an item doesn't arrive, refund the buyer and then the seller chases UPS to get the insurance. At least that's the way I do things on ebay.

One bad thing I have found with signature required deliveries is if the buyer is having it delivered to their home if a signature in person is required and the buyer is at work, it can be a great inconvenience to them. Typically 3 delivery attempts will be made and then the item will be returned to the sender. Some signature delivery modes do not allow the recipient to sign a little card and leave it for the next time.

I would let the buyer know that's how you plan to send it. They may want to have it sent to an alternate address.

NO you cants send it to an alternet address unless it's a verified paypal address, if you do send it to a non paypal address your not covered under pay pal seller insurance

You can send it to any address you like, but you give up the PayPal insurance. If you get insurance through the carrier, the PayPal insurance is irrelevant.

Well, partially true only. If you send it insured via any carrier, the insurance is only valid if the package does not reach the destination or gets damaged. If the receiving party signs for it, there is no insurance that covers you in case the address was wrong (fake) to begin with. If the buyer requests credit because his paypal account was misused, you may end up shortchanged because you did not use the verified address.

You need to read up on the small print :-) as I am not quite sure that I described it correctly. Just my amateur interpretation...

Paypal and shipping insurance are two different beasts.

Thanks for the feedback everybody - much appreciated. I'm going to get signature confirmation. Pretty easy to do with USPS. Found info (overload of it) here: USPS Extra Service Features & Fees
