| I have a co-worker who enters her daughter into a lot of beauty pageants. Apparently, the next one they're doing is a national. She just spent a lot of money on pictures. Anyway, she says they also need what's called a "Portfolio picture," and she'd like me to do that one. Does anyone have any thoughts on what I should do for that? I don't know a lot about pageants, and I know some of the retouched pictures I've seen online are kinda freaky. |

| How old is her daughter? My daughter did pageants as an infant and toddler and she won the biggest award for most photogenic at the Nationals. I can tell you what her photo looked like, but like I said she was a baby. The older girls typically did head shots, kind of like what actresses have in their portfolios. |

I can't specifically speak about pageant girls. But, in general, for models and actresses, a portfolio includes a headshot and a full length shot - nothing too creative, just standard portraits, most with fairly flat lighting.
Then, one additional shot that is more creative.
Like I said, I'm not positive on pageants, but that is the standard for most models.

I think I'm supposed to do the more creative shots. One of the things the pageant coach suggested was taking her picture on a swing or feeding ducks. I did a picture where she was supposed to be selling a product before. We picked apples, and that picture won. I keep telling my co-worker I'm going to stop doing this stuff for free. This time, I told her that I want permission to take some pictures of her and her daughter that I can upload onto the stock sites since people pictures sell better than my usual subjects. She said that's fine because she wants to get her daughter into modeling anyway.
She's a toddler. I think she's 20 months. She is a gorgeous child. She really is. |

I took several shots of a young lady for a pageant portfolio. Here are a few. I took about 40 all together, these are just my favorites.

| Last Friday night the little girl was at our work. Anyway, she was sitting in our desk, drawing on a piece of paper. All of a sudden she just picked up the phone and put it to her ear (she was calling daddy). I thought that looked so cute. It's one of the shots I want to get to then try and upload at Bigstock. Would that be something good for a portfolio picture also? |

| I did some portfolio shots of a 2 yr old for a pagent at a last minute request. They were all candid stuff, her playing in the back yard, in the house, etc. Those shots got her in the pagent as a last minute entry. She even won most photogenic!! Good luck! |
