I know that BIGMA (50-500mm sigma big zoom) is almout a standar in big zoom lens. It's the most loved lens for many of is users. But it's huge, heavy and expensive (relativle, if you onsider the zomm power).
But there's also sigma 170-500mm if you don't need to drop as low as BIGMA (for example if you allreadu have a zoom in the range of 70-200mm more or less).
But how do they compare in sharpness and usefullness? There are som few opinions and less reviews on the 170-500mm that I was wondering if anyone had a chance to try it out. Please give me your opinion in both lenses and how they compare to each other.

I did a search on this before I got my Bigma, and the general consensus was that the 170-500 wasn't nearly as good.

What about the Sigma 80-400? It has image stabilization (though you lose 100mm!). See Fredmiranda.com for user reviews of these lenses.

The 50-500 has HSM, among other things, which the 80-400 and 170-500 do not. I had the 80-400 and while it's a sharp enough lens, the focussing is very slow. I would always vote for the 50-500 simply for the focus speed.
