I just ordered my first SLR. Ordered a E-500 Olympus with both len's. Hope I made the right choice. Should have it by friday and I am looking forward to seeing the improvement on the quality of the image as compared to my Panasonic.
I blame this website for this!!!!
I used to be happy with alittle P&S a year ago.

Hello and welcome to the Olympus family. I think you will be happy with your purchase. I love my E300 and have a small collection of lens. I might suggest a great site to you.

This is a great place for Olympus 4/3 camera owners. As you will find most photography sites are more of a Nikon-Canon site. So good Oly sites are hard to find. I hope you enjoy your camera. And please be sure and post some photos.

I don't know...... I think your Panasonic is very respectable, but you made a great choice for a dslr. |

I wish there were some way to measure the, ur, "investment" each of us has made in equipment that is directly attributable to our membership in DPC. Maybe a little counter that is directly under our current camera to the left of messages, and appears in the profile.
I shudder to think what mine would be now. |

I do not think I have too much into this hobby as compared to others. I spent about 700.00 to get started. Just spend 900.00 with the extras on the E-500. (card, extra battery, remote). Plan on selling the Panasonic perhaps. Tri-pod, Mono Pod ect.
My wife rolls her eyes once in a while. This is all because of this site. OK who is going to take the blame? |

We'll accept the blame. But we expect to see improvement. ;)
FZ20 was the last P&S I had before I made the jump to DSLR. I still have it and use it occasionally. It's a good camera but your E-500 will expand horizons for you.

As to accessories I've had good luck with the CTA BLM-01 battery. Cheaper than the Olympus battery and lasts 10-15% longer. I'd also go compact flash over xd for both cost & speed. One of the best accessories is the Olympus AS-ME-1 which adds 1.2x to the viewfinder which really helps in macro focusing (or just old eyes like mine, about $40).
Good luck & post some pics when you get it. |

Although I've had digicams since I was 13, I joined DPC after I bought my first dslr (D50) last summer. So far the only expense DPC has caused me is my Tamron 28-75, which I think is actually a positive thing. Otherwise I might have bought something not quite as good. Thank you. :) |
