Can anyone tell me a trick for removing color banding from an image. I don't know what part of editing caused it, but it might be an artifact of resizing. It looks like a very mild case of using Posterize. I'll probably re-edit the image tomorrow, but anyone with a tip, I'd be greatful. |

You haven't bumped the saturation up too much have you? That's one cause. But, hard to say w/o looking at the photo.

Nope only desaturated in 2 channels by 5 points. |

Whenever I see unexpected banding I check my monitor settings to make sure the number of colors hasn't been accidentally reduced. |

Did you use USM? Unsharp Mask? |

One time that I had over smoothed an image and when it was printed there would be a banding. This was because the printer could not print that smooth a gradient and so every band represented 3% of the gradient. It could not do the subtle differences.
What was needed was not to smooth to much or to add noise to prevent the banding in the printer.
If it's to smooth for your monitor you may need to select a higher resolution on your monitor. |

Yes, but not heavily. I'll watch for it when I re-edit. |

Is this banding on your screen or in the print? Oddly adding some noise can blur the transitional points and reduce banding if the image is too smooth for the display. |

On screen. The laptop doesn't show it, but I hooked up the external monitor and get banded circles. Resolution 1280x1024, 32 bit.
I did use some NeatImage on it. I'll try it without and with limited NI, too. |
