Hey everyone

Some local bands want me to take their picture. I have many conceptual ideas but my concern is how to pose the suckers. If you know of any musical good band group shots you've seen, I'd love to take a gander.

Thanks

Hey Joey

You will be able to come up with something special.

One thing I always like in bands are extra wide-angle shots with the front man central sorta keeps focus on the lead.

Just a couple of things you may have not thought about is what style of music are they into? are you going to compliment that or something different?
Also be carefull in what they wear for the shoot make sure they just don't turn up wearing a mismatch load of crap, have that all worked beforehand.

Put a couch in a street where a bus is gonna go by... Set the band up on or around the couch. Wait for the bus! Band on the couch in the forground buss going by in the background. Idea is taterbugs btw... Always did wanna shoot it though.

This is a tough one, I don't think you'll have any problems though... posed band shoots usually sort themselves out once you're all face to face. Unless they're really experienced at posing, you're better off allowing them to pose in the way that's comfortable to them rather than directing them too much.
Don't allow them to smile... this can be a natural reflex if you're not a model, and it looks terrible!
Use a WIDE angle... very fashionable for band shoots.
Meet with the band before hand, and ask them to bring examples of their favourite band photos. Talk for a little while about who inspired them and what they think looks cool.
Bring a chatty assistant who can put them at ease. Talk to them as much as possible during the shoot asking open-ended questions to relax them.
Watch out for their arms and hands, make sure they don't look awkward.
Ask them to bring lots of changes of clothes.
Good luck!

Thanks everyone! You've posted some really great examples. :-)

They are a smooth rock band. Like I said before, I know the concepts I will use for the pictures I'm just looking for examples.
