[math]
Let's say that a challenge has 127 entries and you vote on the minumum number of entries to meet the 20% threshold for your votes to count -- in this case 26 (127*.20=25.4, rounded up to 26).
After you've voted, let's now say that 3 of the entries that you voted on are DQ'd, so you've now actually only voted on either 23 of 124 or 23 of 127 (depending on how the revised total is counted), but in either case you now fall short of the 20% threshold for having your votes count (18.5% and 18.1% respectively).
Are all your votes now thrown out since you no longer meet the revised 20% threshold, or is the software sophisticated enough to keep your votes after the DQs?
Esoteric, I know, but I thought I encountered this some time back (or simply goofed and voted on 19% instead...). I meant to post then, but I'm still curious.

Thanks! |

Unless it's changed, I believe that if a DQ takes your voting below 20% *during the voting period*, then your votes will not be counted. If there's a DQ after voting ends, I'm not sure what happens, since your votes have already been counted.

This is a cool question. D&L type of question, as they are doing the coding... but I would recommend that the scores stay. It would be awfully strange (theoretically quite possible) that because 262nd photo get DQd, blue ribbon becomes red and red becomes blue.
(If you voted x on 262nd and 10 for the 1st, your 10 gets dropped and the differential was very small) |

I just vote at least 3-5 images over the minimum so the issue becomes largely irrelevant.
I seem to remember this being addressed a long time ago, but I can't remember how it was ultimately resolved. |

You right GeneralE, it has been discussed before. I was brought up when everyone was debating if voting 20% was fair. I believe a SC member said its best to vote 3 or 4% over the 20% for such occasions when images get DQ'ed. The reason for voting 3 or 4% over the minimum is if an image gets DQ'ed and the DQ'ed image is one that you did NOT vote on then your ok BUT if it is a image you voted on it could bring you below 20% and all of your votes would be scratched.

It's a bit of a situation of morale though. i tend to do less voting if I think there is some reason it's not important.
I know that this is a totally biased and heavily skewed opinion that makes no sense, but I think you know what I mean. If I discovered once that my votes were scratched because of a DQ, I would be discouraged from voting next time I felt I had the time.
This is for a guy who is busy and has to buy out time to vote.
I know that in the grand scheme of things, it's not important that I personally vote, but if people had that feeling, overall votes would drop.
I personally make extra effort to vote when I enter a challenge. I feel that if others are taking time to vote on my image, I ought to do the same for them.
It would be nice if that *your votes count* flag could be sticky, such that once it is passed, your votes count. After all, it's just making sure people take an appropriate amount of time to devote due seriousness to other people's images right?
The time was still spent. |

Easy way to solve this problem. Vote on all of them. Case closed! |

Simply put: 100 entries, you vote on 20, 2 of those get disqualified, your votes still count. |

Also, some time back I got 5th place in a challenge.
here
After the challenge, a top finisher was DQ'd. Everyone moved up a place except me ... 6th place moved up to 4th and I stayed in 5th. It was determined that because of the DQ, someone who had voted on 19% was moved up to 20% and his votes then counted when they had not before. This person voted lower on mine than the person below me, and I got screwed out of 4th :)
Seems odd that you can't be bumped down to 19%, but you can be bumped up to 20% as a result of a DQ ... but that's fine ... didn't bother me at all really.

You take the strange outcome well hopper. That situation seems to show that every vote is important. I hope all the people who say that one or two votes here, or a little breach of anonymity there doesn't matter will read your post.
