Hey, I thought I'd just update everybody on the results of the "Photo of the Year 2005" contest I entered. My wife and I enjoyed an evening yesterday among about 400 people for this fundraiser. The whole contest was aimed at supporting an outdoor education program for Portland schools.
If we recall, there were over 1000 entries. I managed to get 5 in the top 100 as judged by a panel of 5 judges. The Top 100 was then placed on a website and opened to the public to select their favorite 10. The Top 10 were then printed and each guest at the party last night had one ballot to pick their favorite.
I wasn't sure if I would have any in the Top 10, but on arrival I was surprised to have two. Later I found out that my entries came in 9th and 3rd (below in order) in online voting. Anybody who has been here for any length of time will recognize them:
Apparently November 8th, 2005 was a highlight of my photography life as both were taken on the same day and both are also my highest rated photos here.
In the end, I did not win 1st, 2nd or 3rd. The competition had some lovely entries and I'm not disappointed at all. I thought I'd just share with everybody who voted for me online and to encourage others to go out and find "real" contests. It was a great experience.
You can see the winner and finalists here. |

Congrats! Those are certainly two pictures to be proud of! There were some great photos in this contest so 2 in the top 10 is excellent. |

Congratulations! Two great photos out of ten, in some pretty stiff competition should have you soaring. That's quite a feat! |

If there were emoticons available for use on the DPC forums, I would be giving you two grins, two claps and a thumbs-up.
Congratulations.
