Ok, its on my 'puter and I've never found a "good" reason for it. What is the purpose of this add-on software and why would I ever need it when, from my look-see, PS can do everything it does. What's the point?

Image Ready is good for creating web graphics, such as rolloevers, imagemaps and animated GIF's but if you don't do those sorts of things, you don't need it.

Can ya uninstall it? I hate having stuff I don't need on the drive...

I believe you will have to completely uninstall Photoshop and reinstall w/o ImageReady to get rid of it.

yeah, seems you're right, no 'uninstall' option. it tagged on with my last PS upgrade

If you use 'save for web' you need it.

Image ready is fantastic for save for web stuff. You should be using that for the challenges to maximize your file sizes.

How does that make a difference between PS CS2 and save for web setting the desired size to 150k? Seems they both use the same way of doing it? Change image size to 640x and 72 dpi then save for web set at 150 or I set it at 148 in PS CS2. Is there a quality difference? Thanks.

Save for web is powered by ImageReady, not CS2. Take a look at the top left of the screen the next time you use save for web.

I want to admit, I did not know that save for web had the optimize for file size option. I always just used Save As and adjusted quality to approximate file size. I just tried Save For Web on two upcoming challenge entries and... all I have to say is WOW! what a difference.

Been doing this crap for YEARS and learn one simple trick and see such an improvement... thanks DPC!

I guess I am going to have to give this a try...been using the "save as" method too.

Save for web uses image ready and does not keep the EXIF data when it is saved. Using Save As instead keeps the EXIF in the file. However, the file size is not so controllable.

Aha! I didnt' realize that. So I should keep it, if only for the Save for web function in PS (which I use almost daily). Thanks guys!
