How about a matching pair of challenges? You must enter both challenges with the same original or your photo(s) will be disqualified. Different crops are fine. One challenge w/ advanced editing and one with basic editing.
Now pick the challenge theme ... anything will do, even a free study. |

This idea is interesting in a way but it would be another week when the people who don't have the skills for Advanced are being excluded.

Not if it were a member's challenge.

Just because "Advanced Editing" is allowed doesn't mean it has to be used. There is nothing to prevent entering both challenges with identical pictures, using just the Basic Editing rules! (I'd like to think that a truly great photo could Blue in both with basic editing.)
But I don't understand the point of the Duel in the first place. |

The real challenge is to find an image that can convey two meanings when seen in two different contexts.

That would provide a real scoring challenge. One would have to open two browser windows to examine both pictures at once to confirm that each image is conveying two meanings. Since most voters here seem not to follow any stated rules, I don't think this would happen. What will happen is each picture will be voted independently of the other contest.
Now I'd wonder if the Advanced pictures will have a higher average score than the basic?? That would be interesting!

Not if you just have both challenges scored seperately and average the votes. Each set of two votes will be averaged before they are included in the total average.
Here's the catch: If a voter voted on only one of the images, the vote would have to be thrown out to make the average system work correctly or it could be required for these challenges that you must vote 100% of the photos in order to have your vote counted.

I think you're making it too hard. Vote in either, or both, or none of the challenges. The results would still be interesting. |
