Can you use Photoshop to correct noise/pixellation? I read something at istock that made me think you can, but I don't know how.

it depends on the version
I CS2 goto
Filters -> Noise -> reduce noise

Or you should try NeatImage. :))

You can do this at least as far back as 6.0!

PS Elements also has this feature. You might want to check out Neat Image (free download) and easy to use.

I have PS 7, and I don't see a reduce noice option under Noise. I see Add Noise, Despeckle, Dust and Scratches, and Median.

In my experience, the free one is very heavy-handed - for $49 you can get the PS plug-in of NeatImage which gives a much nicer result.

I have used "Filters -> Noise -> reduce noise" in CS2 but still like NeatImage better.

CS2's noise reduction does a better job with color noise but NeatImage beats it hands down with artifacts.

since you have experience with neat image,
does it make your photography kinda flat. i had a few ppl tell me that, but i havent tried it,

Everytime I try to download Neat Image, it says files are corrupted and to get a new copy of the program.

If you're running Windows, you might try PictureCooler -- I've been using a free version for about a year with pretty decent results. The order page is also listing a $15 "full version" upgrade, and there's a link to a page of comparisons.

Another alternative to NI (especially for Mac users) is Noise Ninja.

Noise Ninja is an excellent PS plugin. I use it all the time.

I have yet to get any plug-in to work with PS. Maybe it's because my copy is a "cracked" copy.

Try despeckle. If it's too blurred, then you can play with unsharp mask, or go up to edit and play with the fade feature right after you've done despeckle. It might help.

I didn't know it was cracked when I got it. I bought it off eBay thinking I was getting a legitimate copy. I reported the seller.

Used properly NeatImage and any other noise reduction technique will do nothing but improve your images without any other noticeable changes.

Like anything NeatImage can be overused. I see it often in DPC submissions. Ehen overapplied images get a smooth plastic and unnatual appearance.

So have you met Aeon? This was an exercise I did to push the bounds of NI :)

Everything listed there (with the exception of Add Noise) will reduce noise in slightly different ways. It's usually at the expense of some detail though. Play around with those and neat image and find the one that gives the look you want. Neat image can be excellent in certain situations, but also has the tendency to make things look plasticy, perticularly when overused. It all really depends on what sort of feel you want your images to have.
