I recently bought a new Canon 300D, and I only have one battery... so far. The charge is jus below half, but I am planning a big shoot tomorrow so I would like to charge the battery to full tonight. I was wondering if it will harm the batter to recharge it before it is completely dead?
Thanks, Dan |

Lithium-ion batteries do not have a memory effect. As such, you should be fine recharging it.

A new Lithium-ion battery will benefit from an initial "conditioning" of the battery. For the first 3 charge cycles, fully charge the battery overnight and allow it to fully discharge before recharging. Once conditioned, Lithium-ion batteries will perform best when charged at a rate somewhere between a conventional slow charge and a rapid charge. When rapid charging, Lithium-ion batteries require a charger designed to charge Lithium batteries. To achieve a true full charge when rapid charging, the battery needs to be slow charged the last 10-15% of its charge cycle. Most "intelligent" desktop and Lithium-battery rapid chargers provide this capability. A Lithium-ion battery may be damaged by extensive overcharging (continuously on a charger for more than 24 hours). Back to Top

I just bought an additional Lithium-ion battery for my KM 5D. Obviously, I would like to keep it fully charged to swap out when needed.
My question is this: What is the proper place for storing the backup battery? Is it safe to keep it in my camera bag fully charged?
I ask because there are warnings about storing a fully charged battery.
From the packing material provided with the battery: "It is recommended that the battery be stored with little charge remaining. Never store a fully charged battery"

Storing in this sense usually refers to long term storage. If your going to carry the battery around in your bag and use it reasonably regularly just make sure that there is no way that the contacts can be shorted out.

Thanks. I was fairly certain that was the case, but wanted to hear from someone else for reassurance. It's tough being weened off of AA's! ;^)
