I know at shutterstock you have to submit ten images and if at least seven get accepted you are in. If less then seven are accepted, you have to wait three months to try again. On 123RF they also ask for ten shots for review. I am wondering how strict they are about how many have to be accepted for you to get in, and how long you have to wait if they dont accept your initial ten uploads.

My plan for shutterstock was to wait until I had ten shots accepted at both istock and dreamstime, and submit those ten for review at shutterstock. I figure if IS and DS both accept it then chances are shutterstock will to. I could do that same thing for 123RF, but I would rather start uploading now, and get my photos out there. That is, unless I risk having to wait a long time for another chance.

Thanks for the help.

If you think your shots are good just submit them, its kind of subjective what one company thinks is acceptable and one doesn't. For example the shots that got me accepted at dreamstime, istock, fotolia and the others were rejected by shutterstock. Since then those same images have been the best sellers at the sites that took them.

One thing to note about 123RF (which is where I get the most sales) that I discovered unhappily a few days ago is that if you remove images from your portfolio that have previously sold you lose all the money they earned. I was pretty annoyed when I removed a bunch of images and noticed that later...

My experience was that 123RF was easy to get accepted to other than that annoyance.

Good luck...

Every micro site is different. One photo that SS takes Dreamstime doesn't. One that SS, Dreamstime, Istock, etc takes. Check what each site has before uploading. If they have too many images of the same sort they may not except.

Currently at 8 sites and working on getting into 3 more so I know about rejected images :P

Alright, I am at dreamstime, istock, soon to be 123RF and shutterstock. Any others that you would reccomend joining? What is your next highest earner after those four? Is it worth joining and submitting to any others?

123RF, Dreamstime, Fotolia, and iStock produce the most of my sales in that order. Bigstock, CanStock, StockXPERT haven't produced any sales yet. Shutterstock rejected me, though others report good sales from them. myLoupe hasn't resulted in any sales yet for me (and many others I've talked to), and I'm still pending at Alamy.

It's interesting, I find fotolia one of the slower sites I submit to - certainly well below 123RF.

I guess it must be different for everyone, because I have Made $80 on Fotolia in just over a month and 123 I still only have $44 after like 3 months....But on the other hand I have more uploads on Fotolia.

Depends on marketing. I just noticed an ad for Fotolia at DeviantART so sales may pick up soon. I've seen little articles in photo magazines on Shutterstock and Dreamstime, when may confirm why I get more from SS and Dreamstime.

My sales at fotolia have been very slow... but I am hearing lots of other people with lots of downlaods so I have higher hopes. I haven't had much of a portfolio on there until now.

I find it takes a while to get started on new sites, but when you get going you can make some money!

The file size that 123RF wants is HUGE!! Way bigger than Bigstock or Fotolia.

I'm a member with 123RF but when I saw what their file sized required, none of my images were large enough. So I think I'm not going to do that one after all.

All you have to do is Use Windows XP File Resize option and resize all your files at once!

Well, I just uploaded 13 to 123rf. It seems like they did away with the do ten before you get approved thing??? I dont know, I didn't see anything on there, and it let me do my 13 no problem. I hope I didn't mess anything up. Tommorow I will start uploading at fotolia. I think I used your refferal link melking, so hopefully I'll make you a buck or two. Probably not though, I dont have many shots so sales come slow.

123rf already accepted 11 of my 13 images. The other two were denied for limited commercial use. They approve images quickly. I will upload a few more later today, and finish my uploads at fotolia as well.

Thanks for using my link, I am glad you got your 11 photos accepted that is great. I don't think I make money off people from 123RF but I would on Fotolia...:)

Melissa, I have seen your photos and you do great work. You also seem to be signed up on several sites. Just wondering if you would mind sharing why you haven't tried selling with Almay. Seems like that site is the nirvana for many microstock sellers. Thanks.

I'm glad I lisened to you, one day while I was bored at work I resized some of my images, 14 of them and 12 of them were approved the next day, and 2 of them sold that day. I have sold like 7 or so in the first week. I uploaded 51 resized images almost a week ago. They are still pending. I guess I did too many at one time.

Not sure if I did something wrong a few posts ago, like highjack the thread, but I didn't mean to. Sorry. I did want to add that after reading this thread, I too uploaded my photos to 123RF and things have been going really well. Sales there seemed to have picked up more rapidly than other sites I have submitted to and the sales seem to be moving along too. However, I have only been on 123RF for about 2 weeks. Thanks everyone for the encouragement.
