Thanks for the tips, I'll check into all of that. I liked Williams, cute little town. We stayed there on a Grand Canyon trip a few years back. I learned my lesson on that trip about the state troopers. I got clocked going 42mph over the speed limit of 75. Got very lucky though, he only put me down for 85+.

As an Arizona native trasnplanted to Florida (dry heat vs. wet heat) I'm jealous of your trip! I took my son when he was five to the Canyon, and to be honest, it's not as dangerous as you think....there are MANY areas that are fenced off, and it's so worth the trip. Go through Flagstaff--stop by Crystal Creek Sandwich Stop and check out the northern scenery there.
I agree with a previous poster about Northern NM compared to Southern NM--northern is better, and not too far from Flag/the Canyon. (Plus, you can always go by Meteor Crater.)
Don't forget those one-of-a-kind Arizona sunsets! And have fun!
