Has anyone ever gotten a phone call with someone saying that they want you to come in and answer some questions and they'll pay you $200?
Did you go? Did they pay you?
I thought about it for a while -- I'm definately not wanted by the law for anything...what do I have to lose...I have sick time at work, so I call off sick, get paid my normal wages, go do something for three hours, answer a few questions, and get $200 on top of that...I don't see how I can pass this up.

| Yes, I have done this many, many times. It's legit. The usually give you a check made out to cash, but I've done some where they actually give you cash. I made $75 eating Twix bars! They were trying to come up with a new flavor. My husband made $100 trying on jeans for Levi's. I also made $150 for my opinions on a new magazine. And I'm getting ready to do one for insomnia that pays $225. Have fun with it! |

Is there a way to get on the list or what? Or once you're called in once, you're on it?

| Once you do it for them once, you're in their profile. I'm not sure where you're from but in the Philly/South Jersey area there are quite a few places that do marketing research and pay well. |

There are companies that organize "focus groups" for companies seeking consumer feedback. You'll want to check out the company (just to make sure it's legit), but if you give interesting feedback you may be called again. It all depends on what the companies are looking for (sometimes they want teens, sometimes middle age, sometimes just males or mothers or grandparents or whatever!)
Have fun & be sure to contribute honestly, but not to be a pain about it, and you'll probably get more work! |

My wife gets call occasionally from a local company that does these focus group things. Once she went and gave her opinions on credit cards for an hour and got $100. Another time she showed up, but that already had enough people, but they paid her anyway. The funniest was when they were doing the pre-survey on the phone to see if she qualified for the in-person focus group, and it turned out that she wore the wrong bra size!
My sister-in law had a couple people come to her house and film her preparing a dinner using sausage. Weird.

One of the biggest one's I deal with is Plaza Research. They also do online surveys that pay a few bucks each. Here's their link, at the bottom is info on their focus groups. (The one's that pay the big bucks.)

Ewww...marketing research gives me nightmares. :)
My first job was with a phone survey place and my second job was at a Quick Test place in the mall. Those jobs really suck...but I guess it was better than working fast food or something.
The quick Test place I worked paid people in the mall usually nothing more than $5 but they did have surveys where they called people in and those paid fairly well. If they are offering $200 though I would suspect it is either really hard to fill the demographics they need or it is a more long term survey (like where you take some product home and use it over time and keep a journal) |
