Just wondering if anyone else out there is using Fireworks as opposed to the oh so popular Photoshop.

I use it for image maps and web graphics.

I built stuff in photoshop, then used fireworks to make the images interactive for my website.

I do more web design than photography and use Fireworks quite a bit more for web graphics. With it's integration into Dreamweaver and Flash it make my workflow much easier. Personally I think photoshop is a better image editor but then I think Fireworks is much better than Image Ready.

Oh yeah, Fireworks is MUCH better than Image Ready for web graphics.

I've been using it for the past 5 or 6 years to the exclusion of every other imaging/graphics software and have found that it rivals PS pretty well for what I've used it for. In alot of cases I can follow a PS tutorial or example in FW without problem. FW is definitely geared towards the web though!
Anyone using it for photography though? Besides me?

Web graphics = Fireworks hands down
Photo editing = Photoshop hands down

Fireworks is much more user friendly in my opinion, but lacks the capabilities of Photoshop once you get used to it.

Pretty much what Megatherian said

I use Fireworks for web graphics. But for editing I love Gimp. I would recommend giving Gimp a shot to anyone who is looking for something different or likes to save money (since it is free).

I have been using FW, Dreamweaver, and PS for a few years now. I created my websit in DW (however, it still needs work and will use FW for graphics) but exclusively use PS 7.0 for photo editing. I totally agree with Palmetto. However, both are pricey so use whichever you feel right about purchasing.

well, now that Adobe owns Fireworks...you won't have to worry about which is better for too much longer. :-)

WOW, when did that happen? Maybe we'll see some nice changes in PS's ability to work with web applications!!

final deal went through in the last month or so...most speculation points to Fireworks and Freehand getting axed since Imageready and Illustrator are both solid. Dreamweaver will kill GoLive, etc...So maybe look for eventual ties between Photoshop/Imageready/Flash/Dreamweaver.

Probably right but FW is better then IR from what I have see of both (I use FW mostly for web stuff). I have not used Illustrator but it's rep seems to be pretty good, so probably a closer match with Freehand (which I don't use much).
