Well my long awaited site is finally done. Travis and I designed it all, nothing too fancy but I like it.You all saw the presite, now the real thing is up and running. It is actually 3 sites in one, Arwen Renaissance Photography, Arwen Pa Ren Faire, and Arwen Renaissance.
So check it out! tell me what you think please!
my site

I've also started 2 forums
Arwen Renaissance Photography Forums
and
Arwens Mystical Forest

One is about all things photography and all things renaissance
the other is about all things mystical and mythical.

So check them out let me know what you think, and sign up for my boards.
The ren photography is coming along good, the model releases are coming in, and I'm waiting on a proposal from the faire on doing photography up there next season, I think business should be good once the faire seasons start.

The site looks good, but isn't valid HTML (despite the site's claim). The most common problem seems to be the lack of alternate text on images, which means that people who can't view images well (bandwidth, limited resources, vision problems) won't be able to get pricing information or use the forums.

As I said though, I like the layout and color scheme. Although it would be nice if the central column weren't so rigid as this doesn't allow the page to adjust to different sized viewports.

Huh? I don't know what you are talking about- sorry, please explain!

isn't valid html? the sites claim? where on the site does it say anything about html, I don't know about the whole valid thing it was made with dreamweaver, and it all works for me, so I'm totally lost here...

can't get pricing? why can you not use the nav bars?

sorry but you've really lost me, so if you or someone could explain, so if its things I need to fix I can

Thanks

I had no problems navigating and thought it was well done. I loved the roses with the wedding ring and the little girl in BW that was pouting in the upper left thumbnail. GOOD job!!

Alt text provide alternative or substitute text for when the image is not being displayed. See this site, it has a good explaination on how and when to use alt text on your images //ppewww.ph.gla.ac.uk/~flavell/alt/alt-table.html.

To put alt text in your image, use alt="your text here" in your image tag.

The bit about the central column, is because you have a section that is centered with all your content in. That section is a fixed width. Some people prefer sites so resize with the browser so that on smaller screens the user will not have to scroll around to see the site. But I wouldn't say that it is a bad thing, lots of sites have a fixed width, just make it small enough to accomodate most people. Yours is 755 pixels, which should be fine for most people.

RichSeal's explanation was accurate. Some browsers may not display the navigational images, for instance screen readers for the visually impaired. I tried to list areas that they might be interested in reaching on the site, since they probably won't be looking at a sample gallery (therefore I mentioned pricing and forums as examples). The link I originally posted should go to a validator from the consortium that defines the HTML specification that all browsers try to conform to.

If you look at the first line of the source code, it claims to be "HTML 4.01 Transitional" as defined in
"//www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd", while the validator doesn't agree. Sorry if my initial comment was too terse.

In "the real world" it probably won't matter, but it's always nice to have standard code that you know should look the same everywhere. It's a shame Dreamweaver doesn't generate compliant code.

Trying to explain via e-mail so as not to clutter this thread. Hopefully the e-mail (sent to address in profile) is clearer, it is certainly more verbose.

Lovely site and just because it doesn't have the alt tags on the images doesn't take away from the site.

mystical princess don't sweat the small things in life.

Site looks really good and the photos are fantastic. I'm a stickler for typos and such (can't help it :( ) and noticed a couple you may want to fix.

On your about page, there's a (link) reference that I think you meant to put in but didn't. In the paragraph for the models, you have "improtant" instead of "important"

On the "Behind the camera" page, you have a sentence starting with "We have went". "We have gone" would be better.

Small stuff though, as I said in the beginning, I really like the site.

Where is the PA Ren Faire? I suspect it's more near Philly since you are in MD. I just moved to Pittsburgh a few months ago and if the fair is at a reasonable distance from here I'd love to go some time.

Good luck with your site :)

Thanks The PA Ren Faire is in Mount Hope, Don't know how far that is for you, for me it's 1 1/2 hour drive every weekend of the season but well worth it. As far as the typos THANK YOU! I'm picky about that stuff too, but since it's my first site I was so worried about all the other stuff.
