Man I love threads like this. I'm a avid fighter jet fan, love to watch them but have not had much success taking pictures of them.
The air show is coming here in March and they usually have one or two military jets. I will have to have my camera ready.

I work 300 yards from a military flight line. Sometimes it's just a lucky catch.

During the fleet week here in San Francisco, I was lucky enough to be standing near someone that had a spotter. Everytime the planes would bank toward a certain direction the spotter would announce the position and the guy would machine gun it with his fast camera.
I would listen to the lady announcing the position and would be able to get a couple shots off myself. Unfortunately I arrived late for the show so not many shots :(
Having a companion to shot with, spot, or even to lug your gear is always nice :)
