it was nice not to be shooting hoops for a change...

these were all shot handheld with the 70-200 at iso3200 at 1/640 f/2.8

these were shot with the 16-35 at iso1600 at 1/125 f/2.8

especially considering i'm covering 3 college games today ;-)

Nice, tough in those low light gyms. I'm shooting a basketball game to day for some parents, kids are in the 4th/5th grade. I think I can get away with a flash. Do you think the 420ex has enough power to bounce off the high ceilings? The college gyms probably be better lighting. As always your sport stuff is cool......ace

bounce? no. with your 20d, though, you shouldn't need flash. you should be able to shoot iso800 or iso1600 and get around 1/320 - 1/400, which is more than adequate. with kids that age, you could probably even go down to 1/200 and still acceptably freeze the action. if you want to use the flash, though, just point it at them, and make necessary adjustments with the flash compensation control. i can't remember, but i don't think the 420 has high-speed sync--be sure to check first. good luck, and have fun!

Your right, shot some highschool ball last year, the settings you mention are just about what I shot at. Never used a flash at BBall games. I seen some stuff on the sport fm forum with a flash, it look pretty solid. Didn't think about the age and speed to what I want as a finished product......Thanks

They didn't use flash actually, they used a strobe set up....
